Crocomire is a large creature found in the depths of Norfair, specifically in a passage containing a pool of lava at one end and a wall of spikes at the other end. Its head resembles that of a crocodile, except with multiple eyes. Its body is vaguely humanoid, with long arms and large legs.

Crocomire's main body is impervious to normal attack, but its mouth is vulnerable when open. Firing almost any attack into its mouth will cause it to take damage, but it does not take damage like most enemies. As it takes damage, it moves backwards, the distance it moves being proportional to the strength of the weapon. For example, firing a charged beam shot moves Crocomire a short distance, while firing a Super Missile moves Crocomire a large distance. Eventually, it will back onto collapsible blocks and fall into the pool of lava. Crocomire cries in agony as its skin melts away, leaving the skeleton. The skeleton somehow swims underneath the ground, emerging on the other side of the wall of spikes. It slashes through it and roars a final time before collapsing into pieces. Samus does not encounter the creature again, but the skeleton remains there for the remainder of the game.

Trivia

• There is beta data in Metroid: Zero Mission for Crocomire. There is an animated sprite, but nothing else. Crocomire does not appear in the game without hacking.
• When Crocomire dies, its cry is highly similar to the Godzilla kaiju Titanosaurus. This same cry can also be heard during the battle against Phantoon.

Etymology

Crocomire's name may be a portmanteau of crocodile, a creature it resembles, and mire, as in a quagmire or bog, a possible reference to the fact that both are difficult to emerge from.
