A Crystallite is a scavenging creature that is covered by an impermeable shell of ice, which makes it immune to most beam weapons, that wanders the frigid Phendrana Drifts region of Tallon IV.

Morphology

Crystallites are territorial scavengers that wander about the floors, walls, and ceilings of structures in cold regions in search of food. Their distinctive icy shell reflects most forms of beam weaponry, but concussive and heat based weapons can damage the shell.

In its larval stage the Crystallite will attach itself to a cave ceiling and hang upside down, allowing moisture to collect and freeze as it runs off its body, creating the ice shell. Its form and developmental larval stage suggest the creature is an arthropod.

Logbook

Logbook entry from Metroid Prime: Crystallite
First Location: Phendrana Drifts - Phendrana Shorelines
Territorial cold-weather scavenger. The shell of a Crystallite reflects Beam weapons, and can only be cracked by a concussive blast. They hang upside down in an ice cave during their larval stage. Moisture runs off its body and forms the hard ice shell, which the Crystallite retains for the rest of its life.[1]
