The Grapple Guardian is a boss from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. It is a Grenchler possessed by the Warrior Ing that stole Samus's Grapple Beam when she first stepped into Dark Aether. It has a much faster response time and is much more resilient than a normal Dark Grenchler, but it still shares the same genetic weakness. It will also use the stolen Grapple Beam to defend itself when angered.[1]

Battle[edit | edit source]

The battle takes place in the confines of the Sacrificial Chamber, with a pillar coursing with energy on each end. The Grapple Guardian attacks by ramming Samus or by biting her if she is already nearby. Samus must fire at the Grapple Guardian's eye to enrage it. This causes it to attack using the stolen Grapple Beam. If it hits one of the pillars, it will become stunned, allowing Samus to open fire on its vulnerable weak point. When the Grapple Guardian is nearly dead, it will stop getting caught on the pillars when stunned, so Samus must quickly strafe around and fire a few shots when the Grapple Guardian is stunned. After the battle, Samus regains her Grapple Beam.

Logbook[edit | edit source]

Logbook entry from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes: Grapple Guardian
First Location: Dark Torvus Bog - Sacrificial Chamber Limited Scan
Grapple Beam powered darkling. Well-armored target utilizes Grapple Beam to ensnare enemies. Weak spots detected: back shell and eye. Uses special attack when angered.

This darkling Grenchler has absorbed the power of the Grapple Beam. It will fire the beam to snare potential meals and pull them into its waiting jaws. The beam is powerful, and can attach to most surfaces, including your armor. Its eye region is sensitive; damage in the area can induce a state of anger in the target. A weak spot under the back shell is a prime target as well. When angered, it will use a special attack.
