Brugs are among the first specimens Samus encounters upon arrival on the Bottle Ship. Small, purple, and harmless by themselves, they pose a threat when encountered en masse. Samus rendezvous with the Galactic Federation 07th Platoon in the Main Sector's control room, where they find the corpse of a Galactic Federation scientist covered in green blood. It twitches, and a single Brug emerges from beneath it. Lyle Smithsonian kicks it into the air and shoots it until it explodes. Seconds later, the group hears a scuttling sound and looks up to see an innumerable amount of Brugs emerging from the wall, coalescing around an Emperor Brug to form a gigantic, malevolent mass, the Emperor Brug, with its red pigmentation and seemingly operational ocular organ on its back, serving as its eye. After the mass is damaged enough, the Emperor Brug becomes vulnerable to an Overblast. Alternatively, it becomes separate from the rest of the mass and tries to scurry away. Samus dispatches it quickly with several Power Beam shots. Lacking their leader, the Brugs scatter to parts unknown and are not encountered for the remainder of Samus's mission.
