Rundas is a Phrygisian Bounty Hunter who appears in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. His personality differs depending on the situation; he can be arrogant in front of others, but is quiet and dutiful in following commands when working alone. Rundas prefers to work by himself, even against large numbers of enemies; however, he remains sensitive to the safety of his allies. For example, on Norion, he works on his own initiative to activate Generator C by himself, but then he returns to Samus to save her after she defeats Meta Ridley in Norion.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Rundas is introduced in Corruption in a manner similar to the way Samus, Ghor, and Gandrayda are. Initially hired by the Galactic Federation to combat the Phazon virus infecting their Aurora Units, Rundas and the other Bounty Hunters rush to activate the generators powering Norion's planetary defense system and Energy Cannon to destroy the incoming Leviathan threatening to destroy the Galactic Federation's base on Norion during a Space Pirate attack. Along the way, he saves Samus several times while she aids him in restoring power to the generator conduits.

However, when a dark entity attacks the Bounty Hunters before they were able to activate the Energy Cannon, Rundas and the other hunters become incapacitated by Phazon infection.

Within a month, Rundas, Ghor, and Gandrayda are dispatched to Bryyo, Elysia, and the Pirate Homeworld, respectively. Rundas, sent to Bryyo, is sent to end the rapid Phazon Corruption there and, like the other Bounty Hunters, is equipped with a Phazon Enhancement Device to aid him in his investigation of the Leviathan planted there. It was only a matter of time before Rundas overused his PED and falls victim to a Phazon-induced illness. Samus finds evidence of this as she tracks him in various scans of ice deposits, which have increasing Phazon content as she advances through Bryyo. Before long, Samus encounters another wave of Space Pirates she cannot defeat but is saved by Rundas in a manner reminiscent of his previous interventions on Norion. Samus attempts to walk toward Rundas, but he lashes out at her with a ripple of ice from the ground, blocking the only exit in their location. With no other alternative, Samus begins to fight the corrupted Rundas.

By the end of the fight, Rundas is mortally injured and Samus emerges as the victor. Before either of them could react, Rundas is impaled by one of his own ice formations, and becomes the first of Samus's fellow bounty hunters to perish. A silhouette of Dark Samus immediately emerges to collect the remaining Phazon in Rundas, and Rundas's body disintegrates.

The ice formations remaining from the battle shatter, and Samus is left with the Ice Missile upgrade.

Abilities[edit | edit source]

As a member of the Phrygisian race, Rundas can generate and manipulate ice, an ability which he uses to his advantage in combat. He can generate sheets of ice which allow him to "glide" through the air. He can also generate large ice chunks for use as projectiles. Rundas's ability to implant ice into various locations makes him a formidable foe at close range, while his chunks of ice make him a threat at a distance.

After being corrupted, Rundas liberally enters Hypermode to enhance his ice-based attacks with Phazon.

Logbook[edit | edit source]

Logbook entry from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption: Hunter Rundas
Rundas is capable of generating and manipulating ice. This trait is common among inhabitants of the moon Phrygis, but Rundas is one of the few who have used this ability for bounty hunting. Subject is known for getting results, but considers himself without peer. His arrogant demeanor has led him to mainly seek solo missions, and he rarely works well with others.[2]
Limited Scan
Phazon exposure has greatly enhanced Rundas and his ability to generate ice, making him deadly at any range. His durable ice armor has one weak point--the neck. Serious physical stress can weaken and remove it, exposing Rundas to attack. This weak point cannot be seized as long as Rundas is active. He can create frozen objects at will, and can freeze Missiles in midflight. Smaller ice-based projectiles can be shot down, but it is recommended to evaded larger attacks. Be advised: Rundas can trigger a Hypermode state, elevating his threat level to match your own.[3]
