The Dark Phlogus is a carnivorous creature found in Dark Aether's Dark Torvus Bog in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. It is similar to the Puddle Spore on Tallon IV as well as the Venus Flytrap. Dark Phlogi wait in the water for the prey. After they detect vibrations from the prey, they will release a toxic spray. Like the Puddle Spore, they can only be stunned by Samus's weaponry and not destroyed. Once stunned, they will flip over onto so that their flat bottom is exposed allowing Samus to use them as a platform.[1]

A Dark Phlogus can be destroyed by one Power Bomb, its only weakness.

Logbook

Logbook entry from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes: Dark Phlogus
First Location: Dark Torvus Bog - Dark Forgotten Bridge
The Phlogus waits patiently as it floats in murky waters, searching for a meal. When the seismic sensors in its epidermis are triggered, it springs open rapidly to attack. Phlogi can fire a spray of venom to immobilize their pray. A central nervous system is exposed when it opens its mouth to attack: damage this to stun the Phlogus for a time.[1]

Trivia

  • The Japanese name for the Dark Phlogus translates in English to "Dark Spore"; interestingly, the Dark Phlogus strongly resembles the Puddle Spore in Metroid Prime and the Spore Spawn in Super Metroid.
  • The Dark Phlogus has no counterpart in Light Aether.
