Dark Troopers are dead Federation Troopers possessed by the Ing. Because the Ing are unable to completely possess the Troopers, they have poor aim and low response time.

Samus encounters them shortly after she arrives on Aether and they are only present on the Temple Grounds.

Logbook entry from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes: Dark Trooper

First Location: Temple Grounds - Command Chamber
Bioscans indicated terminated lifesigns in this trooper, and the presence of an unknown biomass with parasitic tendencies. Though the trooper's armor has been compromised, the bulk of it remains intact. Weapon systems are online as well. Full parasitic fusion has yet to be obtained, resulting in low agility and response time.
