The G.F.S. Valhalla is a Galactic Federation Ship, much like the G.F.S. Olympus that orbited Norion. The vessel holds one of the Federation's Aurora Units, Aurora Unit 313 and is located in the Gaflar region of the galaxy. The G.F.S. Valhalla was attacked by Space Pirates aboard a Space Pirate Boarding Pod while the G.F.S Valhalla's crew was undergoing a training exercise. The entire crew was presumed dead after the attack, and Aurora Unit 313 was extracted from the ship and was taken to Phaaze under Dark Samus's control. Dark Samus then uses it in an attempt to stop Samus from ridding the galaxy of Phazon.

Many bodies of Marines are found by Samus aboard the ship, some impaled by Space Pirate melee weapons, some blown away from enemy and friendly grenades, and others crushed by elevators. Several Galactic Federation Marines were soon decayed by Phazon bioforms feeding on their remains. Many other Marines died before they were able to exit the ship via doors and disintegrated as soon as Samus opened the doors.

Samus's Mission

After destroying the Pirate Homeworld's Leviathan Seed, Samus needed to find the access codes to allow the Galactic Federation Fleet enter a wormhole to the planet Phaaze. Fleet Admiral Dane discovered that the codes are found aboard the G.F.S. Valhalla, the downed Federation vessel. In order to reach the code, Samus needs to find at least six of the ten Energy Cells used to power up the ship. The Control Room stores Aurora Unit 313's last testament, which warns the Galactic Federation of Phaaze and Dark Samus's power. This is eerily noted as "...Darkness coming."

Etymology

Like most Federation vessels, the G.F.S. Valhalla is named after a prominent figure in ancient Earth mythology. Valhalla is a great hall located in Asgard ruled over by the Norse god Odin. Many who died in combat hoped to be led there by Valkyries in the afterlife to join the Einherjar, as well as Norse kings and heroes.
