The Hive Mecha is a security drone designed by the Chozo to work with Ram War Wasps, which are released from access ports. Samus encounters it in the Hive Totem of the Chozo Ruins. It is the second boss of Metroid Prime.

After Samus approaches the Missile Launcher the Hive Mecha is guarding, it fills the room with toxic water and releases a swarm of War Wasps. Once the War Wasps are destroyed, Samus can damage the access ports. The Hive Mecha will continue to release large swarms until all three access ports are destroyed.

Security unit programmed to work with predatory hive dwellers. A design flaw makes the shielding on Hive Mecha weak around their access ports. These units are second-generation combat drones, able to interface with organic units at a higher level. They train, shelter, and work with hive-dwelling predators. Unarmed, they rely on their hive beasts to handle any threats.[1]
