Metroid in the WarioWare Series

From Metroid Wiki

The WarioWare series sports many cameos toward different Nintendo series. Metroid is no exception, Metroid references appear in all but one of the story-content WarioWare games as "microgames". The WarioWare series is a series focused on multiple fast-paced mini-games called microgames, these microgames stick to a certain theme depending on which character is chosen to play. When 9-Volt and 18-Volt are chosen, the microgames played will be focused around Nintendo games, from classic to current. Because of Metroid's popularity, it appears again and again as a possible minigame.

WarioWare: Twisted! sports two Metroid microgames. The first is Metroid-Morph Ball, a game which the player controls Samus's Morph Ball, rolling around by twisting the Game Boy Advance and jumping with A. The object of this microgame is to lead Samus to a Missile Expansion, traversing platforms and dodging lava as necessary.

Another microgame available in Twisted! is Metroid-Samus. In this microgame, Samus has to clear the field of enemies with her Arm Cannon. The player twists the Game Boy Advance to aim and presses A to fire at incoming enemies.

WarioWare: Touched![edit | edit source]

The Nintendo DS's WarioWare: Touched! had a Metroid microgame featuring Samus and Metroids in Tourian. The Metroid microgame involved dragging Metroids away from Samus or Zero Suit Samus using the stylus.

WarioWare: Smooth Moves[edit | edit source]

Three microgames in Smooth Moves contain references to the Metroid series. A microgame called Metroid Prime 2 stars Samus and her Morph Ball. The player must tilt the Wii Remote forward in a sideways position to guide Samus's morph ball to knock down barrels, much like bowling. During this microgame, music from Metroid Prime's opening is played.

The second reference to Metroid is very brief and difficult to notice. The Super Nostalgic Entertainment System microgame involves inserting a Super Nintendo cartridge at the right time into the console. The cartridge itself is a random Nintendo game; sometimes the Super Metroid cartridge is the cartridge to be inserted.

The third reference is difficult to spot, as it requires the player to have been in the third level of the Opening Night microgame. The game involves the player conducting an orchestra of Nintendo characters using the Wii Remote. As the level increases, there are more characters and a longer piece of music to play. Samus makes her appearance playing the cello in the third level of this microgame.

WarioWare: D.I.Y[edit | edit source]

Metroid in WarioWare: D.I.Y.

WarioWare once again features Samus in a microgame. WarioWare: D.I.Y. has a minigame called Metroid, this time focused on a more recent Metroid: Zero Mission. In this appearance, Samus must obtain a Missile Expansion, not unlike its Twisted! appearance. Samus can turn into a Morph Ball when tapped with the Stylus, she must do this to dodge Skree, then turn back to obtain the expansion.
