Safe Zone

Safe Zones are fields of energy emitted by Light Crystals, Beacons, and other sources. They offer protection from Dark Aether's toxic atmosphere and slowly replenish Samus's energy. Safe Zones emitted by Crystals and Beacons can be manipulated by light and dark energy.

Safe Zones are usually spherical and intersect with the floor, creating a dome of protection, though they can also be cylindrical. They are emitted by Light Crystals and Light Beacons, but also surround Portal Generatorss, Liftvine Crystals, platforms, and certain upgrades, like the Dark Suit. They were originally created by the Luminoth in their efforts against the Ing during the war and placed strategically throughout Dark Aether.[1]

Safe Zones emitted by Crystals and Beacons can be manipulated using the Light, Dark, and Annihilator Beams. A Crystal or Beacon charged with light energy becomes Energized and does damage to any dark creature that comes in contact with it.[2] Crystals or Beacons hit with dark energy become Nullified and temporarily cease to emit a Safe Zone.[3] A mixture of light and dark energy, however, will Super Charge the Safe Zone, creating a potent light field that lures in enemies with its dark energy.[4]

Some battles are greatly effected by the vulnerability or absence of Safe Zones; for example, the Dark Amorbis with frequently nullify the Light Crystals in the Dark Agon Temple to hinder Samus's progress, and there are no Safe Zones during the battle with the Boost Guardian, significantly increasing its difficulty.
