Shadow Pirate

From Metroid Wiki

Shadow Pirates are Space Pirates specializing in stealth. They are equipped with technology that allows them to cloak themselves by activating controls they wear on their left arm. The high amount of energy it takes to power their cloaking generators, however, prevents them from using beam weapons. Shadow Pirates are instead armed with scythes.[1] These Pirates typically wait in air ducts or on ceilings to ambush their targets.

A Shadow Pirate viewed through the X-Ray Visor

While cloaked, Shadow Pirates do not register on Samus's radar, forcing her to use the Thermal Visor to detect their heat signatures or her X-Ray Visor to see them. When shot by the Wave Beam, their cloaking devices are disrupted and they are somewhat visible for moments. Samus encounters them in Phendrana Drifts and in the Phazon Mines.

Logbook entry from Metroid Prime: Shadow Pirate

The Shadow Pirates are Pirate forces that are trained and equipped for stealth operations. A select group of Space Pirates have access to sophisticated technology. This gear drains high levels of power, however, forcing them to rely solely on melee weapons in battle. Use enhanced detection gear when fighting these units.[1]
