Advanced Weapon Training was a program hosted by the Space Pirate Science Team during the events of Metroid Prime. The program is only mentioned in a single scan, and so very little is disclosed about it.
Because the training was administrated by Science Team and not a military branch of the Space Pirate organization, it likely entailed using sophisticated -- and perhaps experimental -- weapons technologies. The voluntary nature of the Advanced Weapons Training may also be indicative of the experimental nature of the technologies used.
Elite Pirate and Trooper Pirate candidates were selected by Space Pirate Command, and Shadow Pirates equipped with cloaking technology used only melee weapons, making any connection between the program and those positions unlikely.[1][2]
