Assault Shield Space Pirate Troopers are Assault Pirate Troopers that are equipped with energy shields akin to those of Shield Pirate Troopers and other members of the Space Pirate Organization. The portable shields are invulnerable to most Beam fire, but is vulnerable to Missile and Phazon attacks. With beam-resistant shields combined with Missile-resistant armor adds up to almost impenetrable defense. The Grapple Lasso can rip off the Trooper's shield, and the Grapple Voltage or Hyper Grapple can drain or overload its energy. the Assault Shield Trooper breaks free of a grapple faster than any other enemy in the game that can be grappled onto. As the best the Space Pirates' military force has to offer, the extra defense can be a major factor in a battle.

Assault Shield Troopers are heavily armored and resistant to most weapon systems. Their unique armor will deflect Missile attacks, but not Beam fire. In addition to their armor, they wield a portable battle shield. Their battle shield provides protection against all standard weapon fire, but can be easily torn off. Phazon-based weapons are capable of destroying the shield.
