The Control Tower is a room in the Phendrana Drifts. The room connects the West Tower to the East Tower. The room is very open, with stacks of crates spread throughout it. The walls of the room are relatively tall, with force fields higher up. There are two smaller rooms above the Purple Doors to the adjacent rooms. When Samus enters the room, a number of Space Pirates will attack, and the doors will be locked. After the Pirates have been defeated, Flying Pirates will begin to attack. After all of the Pirates have been defeated, the doors will unlock. Only Flying Pirates will appear on later visits, and the doors will not lock. If Samus returns with the Plasma Beam, she can climb to the small room above the East Tower and use the beam to melt a window covered with ice. This allows her to shoot a Missile at the base of a far away tower. This will cause an explosion, followed by the collapse of the tower. The tower will destroy a part of the wall, and open a Morph Ball tunnel that leads to the Artifact of Elder. Samus can then exit the area using the hollow interior of the tower.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • It is possible to avoid the fight with the pirates in all versions of the game by jumping back above the door just as the player enters, and then jumping off the side. This will avoid the area where the game tells the pirates to attack, and thus they will not appear. The player must jump up from as close to the door as possible.
  • It is possible to topple the tower early and thus get the Artifact of Elder early. By standing at the top of a pile of crates on the southeastern part of the room, Samus can jump onto the wall and land on a small invisible ledge between the wall and the force field on one section of the wall only. Samus can then jump from here to get higher than the force field, and launch a Missile at the tower.
