Hibernetic Stasis Chamber
Hibernetic Stasis Chambers are a sophisticated preservation technology created by the Luminoth. Their construction consists of a number of strong exotic metals that make them difficult to breach with conventional weaponry, lending considerable protection to the otherwise defenseless user.
These stasis chambers seem to function by means of inducing metabolic depression as a means of suspended animation and not by means of cryonics, which might be assumed; though a hibernating individual does exhibit a reduction in body temperature, it is the slowed metabolic rate which leads such a reduction and not the other way around. Another possibility is that Luminoth may possess the ability to hibernate naturally, and that these chambers merely house them during this time or amplify their natural hibernetic effects.
The Luminoth that survived the war with the Ing retreated into this stasis following a string of defeats that forced them out of the Agon, Torvus, and Sanctuary Fortress regions. The Sentinel U-Mos alone remained alert in the Great Temple to awaken them in the event that the Ing could somehow be repelled. 28 of these stasis chambers are visible in the Temple Sanctuary, but are inaccessible to Samus.
- "What few remained gathered in the Great Temple. There, all but U-Mos, the last Sentinel of Aether, entered into life-preserving stasis. There they remain, to be released once the Ing were destroyed...or to sleep forever. His people safe, U-Mos prepared for the last, terrible assault. In the silence of the Great Temple, he prayed for salvation, for deliverance from the terror of the Ing." —Luminoth Lore "Twilight" (Metroid Prime 2: Echoes)
- "Object scan complete. Units identified as hibernetic stasis chambers. Lifesigns of hibernating bioforms within the chambers are steady. Chambers are made of a number of exotic metals: it would be quite difficult to breach them with conventional weapons." —Scan Data (Metroid Prime 2: Echoes)
