Properties

Fires an powerful beam or a rapid-fire stream of shots.

In Metroid Dread, the Omega Cannon is a temporary upgrade Samus obtains when defeating a Central Unit, absorbing a mysterious energy from them to acivate it. This power is the only ability that can defeat an E.M.M.I. Samus' cannon adjusts to fire the attack, opening up around the muzzle to show it is ready for use, and the perspective switches to an over the shoulder perspective to better aim at the E.M.M.I.'s weakpoint. When the E.M/M.I. for that area is defeated, the Omega Cannon deactivates.

The Omega Cannon has two distinct modes: First is the Omega Blaster. It is similar to a charge shot, but it has an even longer charge time. When used, Samus charges up a massive white blast that can destroy them despite their normal immunity to her attacks, at least if aimed at their core. It also can destroy special indestructable doors. Hitting any other part of the E.M.M.I. will waste the shot.

The second mode is Omega Stream. In this mode the cannon instead fires out a barrage of smaller projectiles, akin to a rotary gun. This will steadily melt the faceplate some E.M.M.I.'s use to protect themselves and allow them to be harmed by the Omega Blaster. It will also slow them down as long as the attack is still hitting their face.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • The Omega Cannon is similar to Super Metroid's Hyper Beam in that it is a temporary power up that is used to defeat a enemy Samus could not defeat otherwise(Mother Brain in Super Metroid).
