Super Missile Expansion

From Metroid Wiki

A Super Missile Expansion increases the amount of Super Missiles Samus can hold at one time. They appear in Super Metroid and Metroid: Zero Mission. They increase the capacity of Super Missiles by 5 in Super Metroid, 2 in Zero Mission's normal mode, and one in Zero Mission's hard mode. Due to the stacking nature of Super Missiles in Metroid Fusion and the Super Missile's nature as a Charge Combo within Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, they are superseded by Missile Expansions in those games.

Locations of Super Missile Expansions[edit | edit source]

Metroid: Zero Mission[edit | edit source]

Location Items needed Notes
Brinstar Samus must travel to where she first encounters Deorem, then use her Speed Booster cleverly to access a room to the left. She must then Shinespark and break through blocks to access the room further to the left, where the Expansion sits.
Crateria Samus must head near the elevator to Chozodia, then use her Speed Booster to build up speed. She can then Space Jump up to a ledge, then Shinespark through a set of blocks, revealing the Expansion.
Norfair Samus must head to the right of the elevator to Brinstar, then use her Speed Booster to break through a set of blocks. She must then access a portion of the tunnel covered in crumbling blocks, then use her Morph Ball Bombs to break through a set of blocks, granting access to the Expansion.
Norfair Space Jump or Ice Beam Samus must first travel directly to the right of the Map Station located in Norfair, as far as is possible. She must then shoot a hole in the floor, falling to another room. In this room, she must either Space Jump across to the Expansion, or freeze enemies with the Ice Beam to cross the pool of lava below where the Expansion sits.
Ridley No items are needed Samus must defeat Imago within Ridley. This will usually be the first Super Missile Expansion collected.
Ridley No items are needed Samus must travel to a room directly below a Save Station, but must approach from underneath. The Expansion is lying in the open once Samus enters the room.
Ridley No items are needed Samus must travel to the room directly to the left of the room the previous expansion is located in, then make her way over to a Grab Ledge on the far left of the room. The Expansion awaits inside.
Chozodia Upon regaining her Power Suit, Samus must exit the room to the right. She must then drop down underwater, then use her Speed Booster to break through a set of blocks, revealing the Expansion.
Chozodia Gravity Suit From where the previous Expansion is located, Samus must exit the room at the very top right. She must then drop down a long shaft to the very bottom, then enter the next room. Inside, Samus must venture into a large pool of lava, where the Expansion lies in wait.
Chozodia No items are needed From where the previous Expansion is located, Samus must leave the room in the lower left corner, then make her way down to the very bottom of the shaft in the room she enters, leaving the shaft through the right door. She must then use her Morph Ball Bombs to break a path through to the Expansion.
Chozodia Screw Attack Samus must travel to a Save Station near the Map Station for the area, then travel to the right several rooms. Eventually, she must use her Screw Attack and Morph Ball Bombs to ascend a chamber, with only a slow-moving maintenance droid providing hindrance while traveling to the Expansion.
Chozodia Space Jump From where the previous Expansion is located, Samus must exit the room through the upper left door. In the next room, she must travel up to the upper left door once again, and then enter the next room. She must then use her Bombs to break through the blocks blocking access to the Expansion.
Chozodia Legendary Power Suit Samus must travel to the Map Station within the Space Pirate Mothership, then exit via the right door. She must then travel down the corridor and destroy a block, revealing the Expansion.
Chozodia Power Bombs Samus must travel to the glass tunnel connecting the Chozo-built section of Chozodia to the Space Pirate Mothership. Once she enters the tunnel, she must lay a Power Bomb, revealing a path to the left that must be excavated with another Power Bomb. She must then travel to the left until she reaches a room with a tunnel in the ceiling, leading to a tunnel maze with the Expansion at the top.
Chozodia No items are needed From where the previous Expansion is located, Samus must leave the room through the left door, entering into another tunnel maze. Within the maze, at the top, lies the Expansion. There are several Bomb blocks throughout, however, so Power Bombs are helpful when traversing the maze.

Crateria Samus must travel to the ruins of Tourian and travel to a long shaft leading to Brinstar. She must then drop to the bottom platform on the right, where she must use her Morph Ball Bombs to open a hidden tunnel. At the end of the tunnel is a door she must open with Power Bombs. In the next room, she must freeze four enemies with her Ice Beam so they all sit flat, effectively making another section of floor. With this new section of floor, Samus must use her Speed Booster to Shinespark from the frozen enemies upward. The Expansion is high above the frozen enemies.

Wrecked Ship Power Bombs Samus must travel directly across from the door leading to the previous Expansion, then use her Bombs to open a tunnel to another room. Inside the room, she must traverse a tunnel filled with spikes and enemies, then stop at the very right end. There, she must use her Power Bombs to reveal four blocks leading to tunnels, with the path to the Expansion the second from the bottom.
