About the types of doors here...[edit source]

There are two basic classifications of door: the kind that must be opened each time, classified as a door, such as a Blue Door, then you have one time Blast Shields, such as a Red Blast Shield from Echoes and Corruption, that is destroyed once, and then is gone forever. So we need to reflect this in our articles wherever we write this. The name organization comes from Corruption's Logbook, which classifies Beam doors as Doors, and Missile Doors and such as Blast Shields. The 2D games' doors are always opened by a certain type of weapon, but must be opened that way every time, making them doors, not blast shields. We should be using this standard in our articles. Great! Thanks for that info! On the other hand, in Echoes, the "White Hatches" (manual name) and "Purple Hatches" (also manual name) are actually referred to as "Blast Shields" in the game's scan data. So while I think your idea is probably a great candidate for organizing, you can see why there's a little controversy: the games aren't exactly consistent. So for the moment I've thrown a few examples on by Official Name. Can we open this topic up to a little more discussion? Opinions, please!!!
So far, we've got the Headers "Doors", "Hatches", and "Blast Shields", and initially I categorized items by name. We can chisel that down to "Doors" and "Blast Shields" using the info provided above from Corruption and categorize the items beneath by function. Any other options we should consider while we're here? Embyr 75  --Talk-- 18:45, 22 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Skype consensus is to split this article into Door and Blast Shield, and list items there based on function, regardless of name discrepancies. Any objections? Embyr 75  --Talk-- 19:27, 22 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I agree, and this makes sense and is consistent with the most recent official confirmation on this topic, so it seems to be a win-win situation here. Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 20:02, 22 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I approve :D --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 00:58, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Capitalization[edit source]

Working on door articles (I really should find more interesting things to do...), I've noticed that everything is capitalized. It's "Door" instead of "door" and "Blue Door" instead of "blue door." Is there some consensus regarding capitalization. Personally, it looks weird having everything capitalized. After cross-referencing the reference section of Wave Beam, it is the case that it is "Purple Door" instead of "purple door" in Metroid Prime, but even if that's the case, in terms of readability, it seems really jarring to have fourteen capitalized nouns in a sentence that might be thirty words long. It seems that Retro was rather... lenient with the capitalization, but some of these things (such as "Purple Door") aren't entirely... deserving of capitalization? — Jyavoc (talkcontrib) 23:10, 12 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Naming standards can be found in our Quality Standards, here; they read, in part, "All words are capitalized except for common words: those that are three letters long or less, typically ones that start a prepositional phrase." Because each article name is a Title, we capitalize the names of objects that would otherwise not be. The Policies and Editing Help pages answer most of these types of questions. If you're asking specifically about using the capitalized versions in article paragraphs, I'm not sure we have such a consensus. I do generally leave objects capitalized the first time they appears in an article (which is when it should be linked, anyway). Otherwise we'd have pipe-links EVERYWHERE. I've always thought of them as proper nouns, it may sound silly to think of "Blue Door" as a name, but the way I see it, it's a name just as much as Missile or Morph Ball is. We always capitalize Missile because we're not referring to any average explosive projectile, it's the one and only Missile found only in the Metroid series. Same goes with Blue Door in my book. --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 05:37, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm imagining now that existing in the canon university would be incredibly taxing, to figure out what people are talking about. Especially if the makers of "Purple Door" decided to come out with alternatively-coloured Purple Doors, so Samus, in a moment of boredom during space flight, flips on a telecom relay and sees an advert for "NEW! From the makers of Purple Doors come exciting, colour-infused Purple Doors! Choose between green Purple Doors, blue Purple Doors, magenta Purple Doors -- if it's a colour, it's a Purple Door!" and then Samus' head promptly explodes. But primarily what I was asking about was what Embyr addressed in the last part of his/her reply -- in-article citations. I'm personally not opposed to pipe-links, because sometimes this user thinks they can improve the logical readability of a sentence. But if we're considering "Purple Door" as a proper noun in terms of naming, we should at least be consistent, though *meh*. I just wanted to ask. — Jyavoc (talkcontrib) 22:08, 13 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
One thing with caps, though -- is there any reason decided on for this wiki not to have redirects from "mistaken" capitalizations to the right pages? Not every permutation of every capitalized name, but especially for common ones, such as Wave beam or Samus aran or such? — Jyavoc (talkcontrib) 13:54, 16 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Well, if you search it it heads straight to that page. And if there are red links created by peoples' mistakes, then them being red links would be good so that they can be corrected. --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 05:04, 18 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I'm actually not averse to redirecting those types of capitalizations, but as Malake points out the search page will point them in the right direction, so it isn't a dire need or anything. Honestly, this wiki has bigger issues lol. :P Embyr 75  --Talk-- 23:54, 18 March 2013 (UTC)Reply[reply]
