The Light Beam is a Luminoth designed weapon featured in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.

Properties
Description
In a function similar to that of the Plasma Beam, the Light Beam sets enemies on fire. The charged Light Beam, known as the Lightblast, fires a blast similar to that of a Shotgun. The exact spread of the blast is different with each shot. When locked onto an enemy, the Lightblast will home in on their location at a rapid speed. Samus can use this homing effect to knock Dark Samus out of her Boost Ball in battle.
The Luminoth began by experimenting with the idea of overloading Dark creatures with the Dark Beam, however this failed so they moved on to developing the Light Beam, which proved to be a far more effective weapon against the Ing. As with the other ammunition beams in Metroid Prime 2, Samus can charge the beam when out of ammo to fire a normal shot. The Light Beam shares similar properties with the Plasma Beam from Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime: 3 Corruption, and uses the same arm cannon shape as the Wave Beam from Metroid Prime and the Nova Beam from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Samus can use the Light Beam to open portals back to Aether. Shields with a dark polarity can be overloaded by the Light Beam. It can temporarily energize Light Crystals. Lift Crystals can also be manipulated through use of the Light Beam.
The Light Beam can activate dimensional rifts on Dark Aether and causes great damage to Dark creatures. It can also open White Doors. It also has the ability to energise Light Crystals and Beacons, expanding their radius and damaging any Ing within.

The Luminoth created the Light Beam after their failure with the Dark Beam, which was designed to overload the Ing with dark energy. The Light Beam proved far more effective. All dark creatures take a higher amount of damage to the Light Beam and fear it.

Sunburst
Sunburst
Sunburst
The Sunburst is the Charge Combo for the Light Beam, it can be acquired from the Grand Windchamber in the Temple Grounds. It creates a slow moving sphere of light, which is effective against the slower Dark Creatues.
The Sunburst is the Charge Combo for the Light Beam, acquired in the Temple Grounds. It fires a slow moving sphere of light that ignites any enemy near it, usually eliminating them. As with the Light Beam, the Sunburst deals an increased amount of damage to dark creatures.

Samus's Notes
"When out of Light Ammo, you can charge the Light Beam to fire a normal shot. Use the Light Beam to energize Crystals. The Light Beam is quite effective against dark creatures. A Light Beam shot will damage foes as long as they are in contact with it. Charge the Light Beam to fire a Lightblast of white-hot energy. Enemies struck by this blast will burn for a few moments. The Lightblast costs 5 Light Ammo to fire."<ref name=Notes>{{cite|When out of Light Ammo, you can charge the Light Beam to fire a normal shot. Use the Light Beam to energize Crystals.
