Nightbarbs are small darklings found in the games Metroid Prime 2 Echoes and Metroid Prime 3 corruption. they appear as small black and violet darklings with three barb like wings. In Metroid Prime 2 Echoes nightbarbs appear on Dark Aether in the Dark Agon Wastes and the Sky Temple. They travel in huge swarms to protect themselves from thier predetors mainly the hunter ing. Nightbarbs appear to be ther Dark Aether counterpart to sandbats.
In Metroid Prime 3 corruption the nightbarbs are no longer darklings but are more aggressive and will charge into Samus. there is another species called the phazon nightbarb that poses more of a threat. when in a swarm The phazon nightbarb will charge up an energy attack that can be overloaded with Samus's charge shot. If charging green energy the nightbarbs will send three energy burst at samus. if charging violet they will charge into Samus. When there are not enough nightbarbs they can indavidually fire small shots at Samus.
