Super Metroid is the first and only Metroid game for the [[Super Nintendo Entertainment System]]. It was released worldwide in 1994.

Super Metroid takes place directly after the events of [[Metroid II: Return of Samus]]. It opens with [[Samus]] handing over the [[Metroid hatchling]] (collected on [[SR388]]) to [[Galactic Federation]] scientists, on the [[Ceres Space Colony]]. Upon leaving, Samus, recieves a distress signal, almost immediately after. Requesting her assistance back at the Space Colony. Upon landing it is discovered that all humans had been killed and the Metroid hatchling had been stolen. This is soon found to be the work of [[Ridley]], who had invaded the Colony for the means of attaining the last living Metroid. After confronting Samus of which, Ridley fled to Zebes, with Samus persuing and soon landing on the planets surface, in search of Ridley and the last Metroid.
 
After scouring the planet, and destroying Ridley, as well as his [[Space Pirate|Pirate]] comrades, Samus entered [[Tourian|their base]], deep beneath the planet's surface, only to encounter the Infant Metroid, now fully grown. She then after entered a mass battle with the Pirate mastermind, [[Mother Brain]]. Over the course of the battle both the Metroid Infant and Mother Brain are destroyed, initiating a countdown, at the end of which Samus escapes and Zebes is consumed by the massive timebomb.
