Beta metroids are very rare metroids,

Beta Metroids only appear on Metroid II: Return of Samus, they are Alpha Metroids with special DNA structure, that have the capability of evolve to a Queen Metroid, they eventually got renamed and replaced by the Gamma Metroids, their attack patterns haven't changed too much after the Change.
