The Boost Guardian is a sub-boss in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.  It is responsible for guarding Samus's Boost Ball attack, which the Ing stole from Samus at the beginning of the game.  The Boost Guardian can be found in Dark Torvus Bog's Dark Torvus Arena.
The Boost Guardian is the Warrior Ing that stole Samus's Boost Ball. Its primary form of attack is Boosting, though it will also use attacks used by Warrior Ing. Samus battles the Boost Guardian in the Dark Torvus Arena in a chamber without any Light Crystals or Light Beacons to generate Safe Zones.

Attacks and Abilities
Samus cannot damage the Boost Guardian while it is Boosting, though its attacks can be interrupted with Bombs or by an impact with the pillars in the room that house Inglets. If it is forced out of its Boost attack, the Boost Guardian will go into the Ing's puddle form and follow Samus around. After it is hit by enough Bombs, it will go into its vulnerable solid form.
The Boost Guardian fights similarly to a Warrior Ing in that it can fire inter-dimensional beams of light, strike Samus with its forearms, and possess Samus momentarily; it can also transform into a puddle of shadow.  Interestingly, the Boost Guardian is strikingly similar to both a normal Warrior Ing and the Jump Guardian, though besides the similarities mentioned, this resemblance is only aesthetic.

The Boost Guardian's defining characteristic is its ability to use the Boost Ball attack.  Samus cannot inflict damage on the Guardian while it is in its Boost Ball form.  The Guardian will continually boost, though it will disintegrate into a shadow puddle momentarily between bouts of boosting.  The only way Samus can break the cycle herself is by dropping Morph Ball Bombs onto floor near the boss's puddle form.  This does not inflict actual damage upon the Guardian, but it does force it into its more vulnerable standard form.  Once Samus has forced it to stand up, a brief cutscene will play and Samus will begin the proceeding fight in her typical form, facing the Boost Guardian.  On the occasion that the Boost Guardian resumes its normal form by its own will, Samus must manually shift out of her Morph Ball, as the game will not play the cutscene.  When one of the four pillars in the room is destroyed, Inglets may appear, which Samus can kill for slight health and ammo boosts.

Rewards
After Samus downs the Boost Guardian, she is reunited with her Boost Ball attack. With this ability Samus can use the half-pipe in the other section of Dark Torvus Arena and claim the Dark Temple Key that is resting high on the wall.  To regain lost energy and ammunition, Samus may boost into the pillars found in the boss chamber.

After Samus defeats the Boost Guardian, she may reclaim her Boost Ball.

Trivia
Trivia
*The Boost Guardian is often considered one of the hardest bosses of the game. This can be attributed to the lack of light crystals and light beacons, the low amount of Energy Tanks available before the fight, and the Boost Guardian's strength.
*In an interview with IGN, Bryan Walker of Retro Studios revealed that he was unable to defeat the Boost Guardian without taking the game into debug mode.
*The Boost Guardian is incredibly similar in appearance to the Jump Guardian. Both bosses closely resemble the typical Warrior Ing and even share most of their powers.
