Metroid Prime: Federation Force is a spinoff Metroid game released in 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS. Federation Force is a multiplayer spinoff game and focuses primarily on a team of Galactic Federation Marines as they complete a variety of missions. The game comes bundled with Metroid Prime: Blast Ball, a 3-on-3 sci-fi sport in the Metroid universe.
Plot
The story takes place across three major planets, following a team of Federation Marines, and takes place between the events of M2 and Sm. Metroids and Samus Aran make appearances.
Characters
The currently revealed characters are:
*A team of Federation Marines, who are the main protagonists of the game.
*Samus Aran, confirmed to make an appearance.
Gameplay
The game consists of three modes: An unnamed singe-player mode and two multiplayer modes: Federation Force and Blast Ball.
Federation Force takes place on three major planets, each offering about 10 missions. The gameplay is more action than exploration oriented, reminiscent of the Metroid Prime Hunters style gameplay. There is no scanning mechanic. Players move around in Mechs that are outfitted with different abilities, at the player's discretion, before each mission, creating a mechanic similar to role-playing game classes.
Reception
Upon its reveal at E3 2015, it caused fan outcry, due to the five-year wait since Om, which received mixed reivews by critics and fans alike, as fans assumed the game lacked any form of singeplayer mode, Metroids, or Samus. This was proven false by the producer, Kensuke Tanabe. When the game was first revealed, a petition began on Change.org. Within 24 hours, it had 7,500 signatures.fact
