According to Kotaku's interview with Tanabe, this game takes place between ''Metroid II'' and ''Super Metroid'' and at the same time as the ''Prime'' trilogy, but the ''Prime'' trilogy takes place between ''Zero Mission'' and ''Metroid II''.
