The '''Interdimensional Void''' is the anomalous plain that separates dimensions in ''[[Metroid Prime 2: Echoes]]''. Matter that enters the Interdimensional Void is dematerialized and irretrievably scattered throughout its vastness. While on the [[Transdimensional Flux|divided]] planet [[Aether]], however, [[Samus Aran]] discovers temporary [[Portal|spatial rifts]] that are capable of transmitting living beings to an [[Dark Aether|alternate dimension]] through the Void.<ref>{{cite|Light Portals allow living beings to travel to Aether without being scattered throughout the interdimensional void. They are unstable, however, and only remain viable for limited periods of time. When Samus traverses the Void, it appears as a dense black and purple fog. Her body is deconstructed moments after entering the Void and rematerialized at the [[wikipedia:Event_horizon|event horizon]] of the Portal at the destination dimension. Once Samus causes the [[Metroid Prime 2: Echoes#Plot|collapse]] of the alternate dimensions, the Portals vanish and the Interdimensional Void becomes inaccessible.

A similar phenomenon occurs in ''[[Metroid Prime 3: Corruption]]'', though it is unclear whether or not it is the same void. Because [[Portal]]s exist in ''Corruption'' (though very scarcely), some sort of void appears as well. When Samus traverses this void, her matter isn't scattered like portals in Aether. This implies that portals appearing in [[Bryyo]] and [[Pirate Homeworld]] are more direct than Aetherian Portals.
