Splinter Cocoons are protective structures secreted by Splinters, within which they can enter a state of hibernation.[1] Though durable, they can still be destroyed by standard weapons fire. The Splinter inside will be killed if the cocoon is destroyed, but the dying Splinter will emit a shriek that will alert any Splinters hibernating nearby, which, in turn, will be driven to attack.[2]

Logbook[edit | edit source]

Logbook entry from Metroid Prime 2: Echoes: Splinter Cocoon
Splinters will enter their protective cocoons when tired or sated. The cocoon is durable, but can be destroy by weapons fire. Destroying a cocoon will kill the Splinter inside: when this occurs, the dying Splinter will emit a shriek that will alert all nearby Splinters in hibernation. This will drive them into battle frenzy as a defense mechanism.[2]
