Mystery Creature
From Metroid Wiki
This mysterious creature attacks the 7th Platoon after they evacuate the exam center in Sector 1 of the Bottle Ship. Samus fends the creature off by firing several Missiles at the beasts tail, eventually Anthony Higgs forces the creature into a retreat using his Plasma Gun.

The mysterious beast is actually one of the stages of Ridley's life-cycle, more specifically Stage 3.
