Puffers are aggressive hunters filled with Meta-viprium, a lethal gas, which they use to float about in search of food. Their bodies are fragile and will rupture upon contact. If their fragile bodies are ruptured, the gas within them will violently release, killing the Puffer and fatally poisoning any creature that attacked it.<ref name="Logbook" />

Puffers are native to the Pirate Homeworld, though [[Space Pirates]] have cybergenetically modified them into patrol animals filled with [[Phazon|Phazon Gas]] called [[Puffer Mine]]s.<ref>{{cite|Avoid contact with the Puffer Mine.
