Thardus is an animated sentient stone creature charge with Phazon radiation. Samus encountered it in Phendrana Drifts' Quarantine Cave.

Battle

Thardus would throw rocks at Samus as one of its primary attacks, it would also attack by encasing her in ice, rolling into her, or punching her if she was close enough. The chaotic nature of Phazon caused weaknesses in Thardus structural integrity . Using her Thermal Visor, Samus was able to reveal the weaknesses and exploit them. After Thardus was destroyed, Samus obtained the Spider Ball upgrade.

Project Titan

The Space Pirates were exposing inanimate objects to Phazon radiation in an attempt to bring them to life . One of the Pirates' successes was with Thardus. As they continued to tame it, they considered putting it on patrol in the Phazon Mines but due to violent behavior that resulted in massive casualties, Project Titan was suspended indefinitely and Thardus placed in the Quarantine Cave.
