A covern near samus

A Covern[1] (or a Koben[2]) is a cluster of souls from the astronauts who had once piloted the Wrecked Ship before it had crashed into Zebes. This cluster has, collectively, become an evil spirit, and roams the ship.

Its body consists only of ethereal skulls that continuously materialize and dissipate from the physical realm. It uses this to try and appear directly on top of Samus, but is always slow. Unless she holds still, or backtracks suddenly, Coverns pose little to no threat whatsoever.

Once Samus returns power to the Wrecked Ship, the Coverns shy away from the light and vanish from then on.
