Grenchler concept art

Grenchlers are water based hunters found in the Trovus bogg. Grenchlers hunt by hiding and spring onto its prey when they come near it. They can jump high when Samus goes to raised ground and they can swim when she enters the water. The Grenchler has two attacks; it can both bite and fire an eletrical blast at Samus. The beast has one weak spot due to a genetic defect; its back armor is vunerable to explosive weapondry. Once its armor is gone, its exposed flesh can be targeted by Samus.

Grenchlers appear as two legged lizards with armor and horns. The Grenchlers are grey, have a red underbelly, and have a blue tounge. There are nine eyes on either side of its head, eight on the upper jaw and one on the lower. They have several horns: one on their snout, two on the back of their head, and a large amount of spikes on their back armour.

Dark Grenchlers

Dark Grenchlers are Grenchlers that have been corrupted by the Ing. They are much stronger than regular Grenchlers but can be defeated more easily by use of the Light Beam. Dark Grenchlers are much darker in color and their spikes are sharper and shaped more like spines. Their main horn also has a bluish tint to it.

Grapple Guardian

The Grapple Guardian was possessed by an Ing who had the Grapple beam power up. It appears as a large Dark Grenchler with a blue horn one large eye and hair like spikes. When fighting Samus, the Grapple Guardian charges at her. Samus can fire at its eye, and once this is done enough, the Grapple Guardian will use the Grapple Beam against her. After losing most of its health, it loses its shell and creates a force feild for itself.

Log Book Entries

Grenchler: Morphology: Grenchler Water-based reptilian predator. Well armored and deadly at any range. Its back shell is vulnerable to explosive blasts, however.

The amphibious Grenchler lurks in marsh areas in search of prey. Fearless, it will spring from hiding and attack anything that moves. If it is unable to fell its prey with its powerful jaws, it will fire a potent burst of energy at them. Grenchlers have one weak spot - a genetic defect makes the shell on their back susceptible to explosive blasts. Remove the shell to expose a vulnerable nerve center, then target it to eliminate the creature.

Dark Grenchler: Morphology: Dark Grenchler Darkling-possessed amphibious predator. Symbiosis brings additional power to creature, but it retains its key weakness. Target the back shell to reveal a weak spot.

Darklings are drawn to possess vicious predators, making the Grenchler a prime candidate. Despite the added toughness gained from possession, the Dark Grenchler retains its one weakness. Remove the back shell with explosive blasts to expose its pain center, then attack the pain center to quickly dispatch the creature.

Grapple Guardian: Morphology: Grapple Guardian Grapple Beam powered darkling. Well-armored target utilizes Grapple Beam to ensnare enemies. Weak spots detect- ed: back shell and eye. Uses special attack when angered.

This darkling Grenchler has absorbed the power of the Grapple Beam. It will fire the beam to snare potential meals and pull them into its waiting jaws. The beam is powerful, and can attach to most surfaces, including your armor. Its eye region is sensitive; damage in the area can induce a state of anger in the target. A weak spot under the back shell is a prime target as well. When angered, it will use a special attack.
