It follows [[Samus Aran]]'s mission to exterminate all [[Metroid (species)|Metroids]] on the planet [[SR388]]. It is a remake of ''[[Metroid II: Return of Samus]]'' released for the [[Game Boy]] in 1991. A special edition is to be released which includes a copy of the game, a CD of 25 select music tracks from across the series called the "Samus Archives Sound Selection", and a reversible title sheet for the game's cover.<ref name="e3_2017"/>
