Sequence Breaking is the name given when a player goes to areas, or collects items, before they are intended. Since there is usually a set order that items are intended to be collected, but making use of a glitch or technique to collect items outside of this sequence is a sequence break. Almost every Metroid game has at least one sequence break in it.
