In Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Splinters are large, aggressive insect-like creatures found on Aether. They hide in cocoons and will attack any creatures that approach. Even if one is killed inside the cocoon, the entire swarm will still attack. Samus encounters them in the Temple Grounds and in the Great Temple. However, in the Great Temple, they are quickly possessed before she can battle them.[1]
