Genetic variant of common Phazon

Phazon Strain Vertigo, also called Vertigo Phazon, Strain Vertigo, and Strain 776-V,[1] is a genetic variant of Phazon used by the Space Pirates in their mutation experiments. Its potential was discovered by Research Team Sclera on Tallon IV during studies of local Parasites. The strain was code-named Vertigo and yielded promising results when fused with Space Pirate DNA, unlike other Phazon strains utilized in Project Helix that resulted in degeneration of brain tissue.[2]

It was by means of Vertigo that the Space Pirates finally managed to grow Elite Pirates to maturity. Vertigo Phazon was also used in Metroid experimentation with great success.[3]

  2. "Initial Project Helix experiments with Space Pirate embryos were disastrous. The Phazon-infusion process degenerated brain tissue even as it augmented muscle mass. None of what we have termed 'Elite Pirates' lived to maturity; the few that survived their infanthood suffered severe psychotic breakdowns as juveniles, killing anything within their zone of perception. Research team Sclera made a recent breakthrough, in which parasite studies with a Phazon strain code-named 'Vertigo' were highly successful. Since then, we have fused Vertigo Phazon with Space Pirate DNA with great success. The latest batch of Elite Pirates have reached maturity successfully and are ready for field testing and training." —Pirate Data "Elite Pirates" (Metroid Prime)
  3. "Metroids infused with Phazon Strain Vertigo are thriving. We feel they could be Class I Energy Harvesters if proper submission measures are employed." —Scan Data (Metroid Prime)
