The Chozo are a race of bird-like extraterrestrials. They raised Samus Aran from childhood due to the death of her parents. She was apparently accepted into the Chozo society, as they gave her a Power Suit. Their history and fate are an overall mystery, although many mentions and evidence of their existence are present throughout the Metroid series.
Metroid Prime
In Metroid Prime, the Chozo play a significant role in the storyline and gameplay elements of the game. Samus can download translated Chozo Lore to her logbook, and this lore provides information about the Chozo's experiences on Tallon IV and some of their collective philosophies and prophecies. Chozo structures and statues can be seen all over Tallon IV, especially in the Chozo Ruins area. They mention a "Newborn" multiple times, as if in prophecy. This newborn is almost definitly Samus. Throughout Samus's adventure on Tallon IV, she encounters a number of Chozo Ghosts, and she is forced to kill these beings. However, these corrupted Chozo are able to help Samus defet Meta Ridley, and reestablish the transport into the Impact Crater
