Unrefined Blue Phazon.

Phazon is a highly radioactive, and seemingly biotic substance that plays a major role in the Metroid Prime series. In Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, due to Dark Samus, Samus and the other major bounty hunters in the game are "corrupted" by phazon. During the course of the game, Samus' internal phazon levels increase, requiring her to "vent" that phazon build-up through her Arm Cannon, or face "terminal corruption".

Details

Not much is known regarding the true nature of phazon as a material substance. It is known for being highly radioactive and at the same time corrosive and biologically toxic, as well as even demonstrating low-level sentience. It has been used extensively by the Space Pirates for its effective mutagenic properties, of which they have used for mutating their species' (as well as many others) own genetic structure, to produce more powerful and even monstrous versions of themselves and others. During the course of Samus's visit to Phaaze, the phazon inside of her even affected her genetic structure to the point where her ship's bio-scanners could not even recognize her. Phazon was also later adopted by the Galactic Federation for a short time, where it was converted into beam weaponry and adopted through the use of a Phazon Enhancement Device, or P.E.D. Suit.
