I find redirects in mainspace alright so long as a) a user doesn't go overboard linking 10 redirects to one's own userpage and b) redirects don't impede with regular wiki editing; i.e. something like Ridley, Zoomer, etc. doesn't redirect to a user page. Thoughts? --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 01:36, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Well, for one thing, if its mainspace, then it is perceived by the servers as mainspace, potentially making maintenance special pages link here and otherwise messing that up. For another thing, the question is raised: why do we need a redirect to a user page in the mainspace in the first place? Bop1996 (Talk | Unfinished projects) 11:24, 11 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's actually counted as a redirect page, like when you get the count of main space articles, redirects aren't included and stuff. I really don't see the problem to be honest, and since it's a matter of opinion, I'm thinking we do a simple vote. We'd have to delete existing redirect to nonmainspace articles if we did delete everything. --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 03:00, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

  1. As stated above, I find nothing wrong with mainspace-to-nonmainspace redirects so long as a) a user doesn't go overboard linking 10 redirects to one's own userpage and b) redirects don't impede with regular wiki editing; i.e. something like Ridley, Zoomer, etc. doesn't redirect to a user page. --Malake256 {Talk | Contribs} 03:00, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Even though I still see no reason for this to exist, the redirect showing up in maintenance special pages was likely only due to the deletion template, and so I have no concrete reasoning to base this off of. However, I'd still recommend this: if it gets to the point where every user has a mainspace redirect to their page that is unused, I would say we should definitely delete them all; it would significantly mess up the search bar and other things. One redirect doesn't seem like much, but there may be long-term repercussions of this decision, repercussions that would make these get really annoying. I'm not going to support, as there is no solid reasoning right now, but I'm not going to oppose as I still think this may have long-term consequences.
