The Spider Magnet is an ability that made it’s first appearance in Metroid Dread. The Spider Magnet is obtained after destroying E.M.M.I.-02SM and allows Samus to cling onto Magnetic Surfaces.

Usage

Upon approaching a magnetic surface, Samus will automatically cling to the surface while allowing her to move, shoot, and melee counter while still clung to the surface. Moving in any direction will allow Samus to crawl along the surface until said surface ends where she will either stop moving or pull herself up if the surface ends at a ledge. Samus can also press against ceilings to reduce her hitbox by holding up while clinging to a ceiling.[1] This upgrade also allows Samus to pull down special doors and platforms that have a magnetic surface attached to them.

This upgrade also has some unique use cases when combined with other upgrades or techniques. Wall Jumping off of a magnetic surface with this upgrade allows Samus to gain height while still being able to cling to the surface that was jumped off of, giving the ability to single wall jump off of these surfaces. Additionally, upon obtaining the Grapple Beam upgrade, using the Grapple Beam to grapple onto Magnetic Surfaces will cause Samus to use the Spider Magnet upon reaching the surface being grappled too.[2] Notably, the Morph Ball does not work with this ability meaning Samus cannot cling to surfaces while in Morph Ball form.
