These stasis chambers seem to function by means of inducing [[wikipedia:Hibernation|metabolic depression]] as a means of [[wikipedia:Suspended animation|suspended animation]] and not by means of [[wikipedia:Cryonics|cryonics]], which might be assumed; though a hibernating individual does exhibit a reduction in body temperature, it is the slowed metabolic rate which leads such a reduction and not the other way around. Another possibility is that Luminoth may possess the ability to hibernate naturally, and that these chambers merely house them during this time or amplify their natural hibernetic effects.

The Luminoth that survived the [[Ing-Luminoth War|war]] with the [[Ing]] retreated into this stasis following a string of defeats that forced them out of the [[Agon Wastes|Agon]], [[Torvus Bog|Torvus]], and [[Sanctuary Fortress]] regions.
