If any questions or issues posted on old archives arrive, do not post on archived talk pages, simply reraise the questions, and refer to the archived material if you wish. {{:User:Malake256/sig}} 00:43, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

==Galleries==
:*All the headers in articles, on talk pages, on the sidebar, and on the RC are black. They should be white. :)
I really used to like the gallery's look, but it's been buggin me lately, so I've been messing with it a bit, I only came up with two designs I sorta like. The main difference between the two is the roundedness. Of course if you guys really like the current gallery look, please speak up. Otherwise I think I'll change it to numero uno. The second is not round and has a thicker border on the bottom side (though this can be easily removed and added to the first. The third is, of course, the norm, wast of file space when I could've just made an actual gallery.. but oh well :] {{:User:Malake256/sig}} 00:43, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
:Choice 1 looks awesome. Roundiness fits in with our roundification of many things on the wiki. {{:User:Metroidking/sig}} 00:32, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
::I believe that file one is the most aesthetically pleasing of the three. As long as there's not a whole lot of mental headache or any serious drawbacks to that method, I support it. {{User:Bop1996/sig}} 00:56, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
:::Coding wise or anything like that? There are no drawbacks or difficulties to any of the methods. It's all simply a matter of visual preference, I'm simply asking to see which people like best, or if people like the current design. {{:User:Malake256/sig}} 07:28, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
::::As you may have noticed, I changed galleries to that 1 choice, this is simply to make it more noticeable to people that it is changing ;) and to match up with the new gallery template :D I'll change it back if it's what people want {{:User:Malake256/sig}} 08:44, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
:::::Looks awesome, and since it's apparently just in the MediaWiki files, I see no drawbacks. I support wholeheartedly. {{User:Bop1996/sig}} 21:49, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

== New Skin Issues ==
:::Looks great! Thanks a bunch! {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 21:33, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

I see we've updated to a new skin! I thought I'd start this area for reporting issues (I'm sure many will crop up throughout this transition process). Here are a couple I've found, feel free to add more! {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 06:15, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
== Template cleanup ==

=== Outdated Logo (Resolved) ===
I was looking into fixing up the infobox css and noticed there's already a css class setup in [[MediaWiki:Common.css]] for the infobox.  Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it's used very much. I did a search and it seems like there are a lot of different [[:Category:Infobox Templates|infobox templates]].  Should they all look the same (300px width, identical colouring, borders), or do they have deeper complexities than that?  Could we tackle them one by one, activate the common infobox stylings, and then clean it up and refine it till it looks good? Where should we start? -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|talk]]) 05:00, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure we had another logo to replace our old one. Has this logo been rejected or is this a mere oversight? {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 06:15, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

:As far as I can tell, the new logo is sitting right above the editing box as I type. {{User:Bop1996/sig}} 20:56, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
:I'm not the master infobox maker here, but as far as I know the only things that change from infobox to infobox are the parameters (game, planet, vulnerabilities, family, voice actor, etc), with the exception of the infoboxes made specifically for each GAME (which have different background images). Other than that I'm pretty sure they all look and function the same way. (A few may also add categories. Not sure.)

::Hmm. That's a little troublesome. I wonder what that's all about; I still see the old logo. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 23:25, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
:So I'm all for creating a more uniform system. Whatever you guys decide is the best way to go about it, I'm willing to be a drone to help implement. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 17:09, 15 June 2014 (UTC)
::I've got a bot that can take care of changes, and most of it should only be in the templates themselves, so that shouldn't be a problem.  Which do you think is a good infobox to start with? Perhaps, something that is used in only a few locations. (I fixed the link above for the infobox category). -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|talk]]) 18:00, 15 June 2014 (UTC)

:::Purge your local cache, should fix it. -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] 03:03, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
:::[[Template:Console-infobox]] and [[Template:Company-infobox]] are only used on three articles each. Those would probably work well. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 18:53, 16 June 2014 (UTC)
::::Well, looking through the history, turns out infobox [[Template talk:Planet-infobox|used to be]] the class to use, but then it was replaced by inline css...  Looks like this will be much more complicated than I expected. I've started a [[Template:Company-infobox/WIP|WIP]], we'll see if I can get it looking right. -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|talk]]) 01:15, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

::::Thanks, that did it. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 07:16, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
==Resizing GIF files==
I'm not sure if this is a MediaWiki related issue, but I know something similar has come up in the past: When I tried to resize the gif file in the [[Draygon]] article infobox, the image wouldn't show up in the preview. The |thumb parameter worked, and it displayed fine without any resize parameters at all, but using |150px or the like generated blank images. Any idea what might be causing this? {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 18:45, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

=== Galleries (Resolved) ===
== Ugly Template ==
Our galleries don't function properly anymore, as far as appearance is concerned. Is there a way to fix this? {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 06:15, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

:Guessing this is a fix that needs to be taken care of in MediaWiki, as the galleries were changed using that. {{User:Bop1996/sig}} 20:56, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
Can someone tack a whack at fixing the [[Template:Trophy|Trophy Template]]? The "NavHeader" needs to remain [[Template:round|round]] and not be changed to [[Template:roundt|roundt]] because when the "hide" function is toggled it looks ugly otherwise. But when it's set to round it doesn't fit inside the nav borders the same way the other cells do. Check out the [[Template_talk:Trophy|talk page]] for all the gory details. Thanks! {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 21:26, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

::Undoubtedly. I'll try to get in touch with Prod. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 23:25, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
== Wiki Coverage of Smash Bros. ==

:::Probably stuff from [[MediaWiki:Power.css]] needs to be copied to [[MediaWiki:Quantumleap.css]]. -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] 03:03, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
Ok, here's something that I think needs to come up again. Should we be covering all the Super Smash Bros. games? I don't think it's relevant to have long lists of characters that have nothing to do with the Metroidverse on badly written articles on a Metroid wiki. Check out [[:Category:Super_Smash_Bros.|this category]] for some of the pages in question. I say we kill them all, or merge most of them into brief synopses with links to the wikis that should be covering them (like SmashWiki and MarioWiki, for example). Thoughts? {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 03:26, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

::::I have no experience with MediaWiki stuff... I'm a little wary of breaking things. Care to take a whack at it? {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 07:16, 24 April 2012 (UTC)
:I think either we just get rid of the game pages completely and stick to [[Metroid in the Super Smash Bros. Series]], or we keep one page for each game (just like the Metroid games) but keep the content to a minimum. I'm not too sure if [[Sticker]] and [[Trophy]] are within scope here though. Also, I think we should make it obvious which links are external links, maybe with icons beside them. -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|talk]]) 22:32, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

:::::How's that? -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] 00:09, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
::The icon idea is good, as for the Smash Bros. content, maybe get rid of Sticker and Trophy. If there is something specific that has trophies or stickers, we should mention them on its article. {{:User:Metroidking/sig}} 05:49, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

::::::Certainly an improvement. Thanks for your help! {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 00:27, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
:::Let's do what the Zelda Wiki (my home wiki :P) did. They made pages for each game, the series itself, glitches, hacks, items, and characters, but tended to talk mostly about its relationship with Zelda. But, they kept everything short and simple, and reminded the reader that the Smash Wiki had more in-depth articles. Does that sound good? — [[User:Phaazonian|Phaazonian]] ([[User talk:Phaazonian|Talk]]) 16:55, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

===Templates, etc===
::::I'm all for killing the Sticker and Trophy pages and merging that content into the [[Metroid in the Super Smash Bros. Series]] article. Honestly, '''I feel like this Wiki is struggling as it is just to get the Metroid series covered and the Smash articles are a waste of resources and time'''. We have a whole SmashWiki dedicated to it, as well as the powerhouses like Mario Wiki which are covering it too (though I don't really know why. It isn't exactly a Mario game, is it? By the same logic, why would a Metroid Wiki have a page with a list of Smash characters?).
Templates and other things around the wiki (such as the wiki markup box during editing) are still using the old MW background color. Also, previously attractive templates ([[:Template:Scan]] comes to mind) look sort of funny now. Specifically, the "hide" button is squished against the description, instead of on the far right end, and it looks cluttered. We might need to overhaul our templates. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 06:15, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

:I'm not sure about this one. Probably at least part of it can or needs to be taken care of in MediaWiki, but the basic templates we use for all the background colors will need to be changed as well. {{User:Bop1996/sig}} 20:56, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
::::The general consensus seems to be that we merge everything. If there aren't any objections, I'm thinking a good way to do this, rather than make separate articles for each game and the series, is to merge ALL of that content into just one article. [[Super Smash Bros. (game)]], [[Super Smash Bros. Melee]], and [[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]], as well as [[Super Smash Bros. (series)]], [[Sticker]], and [[Trophy]] could all redirect to [[Metroid in the Super Smash Bros. Series]], where we'd have a nice synopsis of everything, and then just stick to Metroid. Cuz let's get real, if anyone is coming to Metroid Wiki it all it isn't to read about Smash Bros. Any comments? {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 01:46, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

::Right, [[:Template:Mw color]], [[:Template:Mw color light]], and [[:Template:Mw color dark]] need to be changed to match the new look for sure. Not sure what to do about the rest of the aesthetics. I would like our templates to be more uniform, though, in size and such, so maybe this is an opportunity. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 23:25, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
So I completely revamped the [[Metroid in the Super Smash Bros. Series]] page and merged all the information onto it from the other pages. If everyone likes the look of it and there are no objections, I'll redirect all the other pages to that one (Or delete them, if they're irrelevant), probably on Friday. I realize that the page is pretty huge; I personally don't have a problem with it the way it is right now, but if anyone doesn't like the size we could divvy it up into ''Metroid in (game)'' rather than ''Metroid in (series)''. But like I said, that might not be necessary. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 22:34, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

:::One thing that should hopefully come out of this: [[Template:Nav]] is not the same width as the widths we've had on navs that use [[Template:Tab]]. On pages with both kinds of templates, this is a pretty jarring difference. If there was a way to enforce the same width on non-tabbed navs as well, that'd be optimal. {{User:Bop1996/sig}} 01:52, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
:I looks quite nice, it may be better to split it into multiple articles in my opinion. The new Smash Bros. content will add a lot to the page. The only other thing I think it needs is some better interwiki links. I'll have some time to take care of it this weekend, probably will make templates for all NIWA wikis. {{:User:Metroidking/sig}} 04:14, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
::Do you think it'd be possible to add a link to the StrategyWiki guide on each of the game pages as well? -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|talk]]) 14:22, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

::::Yeah, I noticed the same thing. I'm not really good with templates, though if I stared at it long enough I could probably figure it out. My original plan was to revamp all the Nav templates to be Tab'd, but I'd also like to set the Tab template to have a default width. That, I'm not sure how to do. If you want to take a whack at it, feel free. Any ghastly mistakes on our part can always be reverted ;) {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 16:56, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
:::Good point! I'll add those. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 19:49, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

:'''Update:''' The color templates have been adjusted but [[Template:Nav]] still isn't working and [[Template:Tab]] still doesn't have a default width. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 22:31, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
== Wave of account creations ==

::What do you mean, default width? - [[User:J|J]] ([[User talk:J|talk]]) 20:44, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
I checked the IP of several of the new users at random and there is no match between any of them. It's pretty reasonable to say that these are spam creations, would there by a way to make it tougher for these to get through? {{:User:Metroidking/sig}} 04:02, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
:Asirra (the cat captcha) was shut down earlier this month, so I switched to a very basic captcha temporarily.  I'm going to activate a newer captcha soon, so it should stop them. -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|talk]]) 16:14, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

:::As it stands currently, our [[Template:Tab|Tab template]] either automatically adjusts its width based on content, or you can manually enter a width when using it in a navigation template. We're using 565px on a lot of our navigation templates right now for uniformity. It'd be nice if that was by default, and easily rectified if we change our minds on what that width should be. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 01:02, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
== Interwiki links ==

===New messages box===
I mentioned making these a while ago for articles that should be linked to other wikis like the Smash Bros. articles. I'm thinking we use their icon next to the link, for example [[File:BPIcon.png]][[bulbapedia:Greninja|Greninja]]. Opinions? {{:User:Metroidking/sig}} 02:45, 31 December 2014 (UTC)
I believe that the box is currently the MediaWiki default colors for background and text rather than the colors we had that blended well with our skin. {{User:Bop1996/sig}} 01:52, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

:...Could someone edit my talk page so I can see this?  (Assuming it's that box you're talking about...) - [[User:J|J]] ([[User talk:J|talk]]) 20:44, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
:I like it! It'd be nice to tell at a glance, without hovering, where the link goes. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 16:08, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

::I did. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 01:02, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
::Sorry for taking so long on this. I have two thoughts on how we can implement it:

===External Links===
::<nowiki>{{bulbapedia|Greninja}}</nowiki> or <nowiki>{{interwiki|bulbapedia|Greninja}}</nowiki>
External links are showing up the default blue color instead of the green color they were on the power skin. Probably just one color in the MediaWiki files needs to be changed is all. {{User:Bop1996/sig}} 16:43, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

:You want interwiki and external links to be the same colour as internal links, with the same hover and visited colours too? - [[User:J|J]] ([[User talk:J|talk]]) 20:44, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
::Both could give the same image+link, but one more complex template vs 22+. Opinions? {{:User:Metroidking/sig}} 18:46, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

::I think that's how we had it before, yeah. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 01:02, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
:::I think either way is fine, but probably making one template would be better if we ever wanted to change anything about it. So my vote is for making <nowiki>{{interwiki}}</nowiki>, but I'm fine with either. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 18:59, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

===Revision Diffs===
== Front Page Cleanup ==
The background colors for the non-edited text on revision diffs make it very difficult to read the non-changed text. Again, this is probably just one thing that needs to be fixed in MediaWiki. {{User:Bop1996/sig}} 23:43, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

:I noticed this as well. It's quite hard on the eyes. I'd love to see this fixed soon. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 00:41, 7 May 2012 (UTC)
So there's a couple things I've been thinking about:

===Bullet Points===
* '''Rotating the Featured Articles and Images.''' Voting has been stagnant and the look of the front page hasn't changed for some time as a result. I thinking rotating our handful of features each visit will keep it looking fresher than the tabbed templates we have now.
Our bullet points, aka these things,

<li> are a plain white dot right now. </li>
* '''Skype Chat and Skype Archives.''' Also stagnant. I say if we aren't using it, we should throw it out and replace it with something better.

They used to be the purple and green Metroid Wiki image. I'd like to see it back that way again, or updated to something else. The plain white doesn't look right anymore. =P Boy are we spoiled or what? {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 22:58, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
* '''Remember Me?''' Nothing actually seems to link to these pages anymore. We could just leave them for a while, but at the moment they're not doing anything.

:Do you have an image you want to use/know where the one used before is?  I'm not sure what skin you saw it with, but the 'power' skin currently has a grey image, which doesn't sound like what you're remembering. - [[User:J|J]] ([[User talk:J|talk]]) 20:44, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
* '''Wiki Lore:''' This is an idea we tossed around. They'd be editorial articles that we'd write ourselves and/or invite contributors to write. I'm thinking we could release them on a monthly basis. It would give us some exclusive content. I already have several in the works -- if we're going to launch this I think it would be good to have a bumper crop of articles so we don't fall behind in publishing them. It would replace the ''Editor Station'' space.

::I'm not sure if this is the same one, but [[:file:2D logo.png]] would work just fine. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 01:02, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Thoughts? {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 16:16, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

===All the fixes===
: Main page definitely could use some touch ups.
To fix everything (including some other stuff not mentioned here), put the following at the bottom of [[mediawiki:quantumleap.css]]:
*Featured content: Randomizing to avoid stagnation sounds good to me.

<pre>/* collapsible boxes */
*Skype: we could remove the archives. The public chat is a mixed bag, not much wiki chat goes on in there, but there's still Metroid related discussions going on. If you do have an idea for something better I'd still be interested in hearing it, particularly for staff communication.

Some notes:
*Remember Me:It's already removed from the main page, but I think we should still have them archived.

*I kind of fail at colours, so if the diff colours don't look right, tell me.
*Wiki Lore:I think it'd be a cool new addition. Would you be able to share the topics of what you're working on now? {{:User:Metroidking/sig}} 05:12, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
*I haven't used the proper templates and categories for [[:file:bullet.png]] because I don't know what they are...
*I wasn't sure if I got the bullet point size right - to change it, just scale [[:file:2D logo.png]] and upload over bullet.png.
*Should I fix up the preferences page too?

- [[User:J|J]] ([[User talk:J|talk]]) 10:12, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
::Ok, great. I'll look into randomizing the rotation, unless you beat me to it. As for staff communication, I'm leaning towards a forum; it's easier to document and check regularly, imo. What do you think? Any ideas for where we could do that? Maybe NIWA...

:Wow, fantastic!!! Thank you!!!! I GROVEL IN AWE OF YOUR MAGNANIMOUSNESS! =D As for the preferences page, I guess it would be nice if it matched the rest of the site, but I don't think it's urgent. Hyperlinks to other sites still come up in blue, though. O.o {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 05:40, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
::Remember Me is basically archived, so I guess we can leave that as is. The three Wiki Lore projects I'm working on are interviews with major figures in the ''Metroid'' community; I'll email you my drafts and some other details. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 17:55, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

::Ah, apparently I didn't test that properly.  You need to replace the three lines under ''/* external links */'' with the following:
== Simplifying the Sidebar + Projects/Maintenance ==

<pre>#bodyContent a.extiw, #bodyContent a.external {color: #6FA028;}
I noticed while on Inkipedia that they've got a couple things going for them as far as community navigation that I think would be great to implement here:
#bodyContent a.extiw:visited, #bodyContent a.external:visited {color: #547A1F;}
#bodyContent a.extiw:active, #bodyContent a.external:active, #bodyContent a.extiw:hover, #bodyContent a.external:hover {color: #93D435;}</pre>

::- [[User:J|J]] ([[User talk:J|talk]]) 08:43, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
*Simplified sidebar. Ours is cluttered and unhelpful. Specifically, I'm thinking we can drop the "Featured Articles" and "Featured Pictures," which are pretty much dead features on this site right now anyway, and also drop the "Random Page" and "Random Picture" links, and maybe even the "Wanted Pages." I think it would make the sidebar a lot more sleek.

:::That did it. Thanks! {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 15:35, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
*[[inkipedia:Inkipedia:Projects|Projects]] and [[inkipedia:Inkipedia:Maintenance|Maintenance]] pages, which are great. I'd love to have those (and put them on the sidebar), especially for documenting particular on-going issues in more detail (like some of our Metroid Prime room articles, which exist but don't have the proper layout, enough sources, or images).

Thoughts? {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 23:33, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
A recent MediaWiki update created a "Checkuser" user rights group on its own (I can't really speak for sure whether this is absolutely true all over, but it was definitely an accident over on the Super Mario Wiki) that only has "checkuser" and "checkuser-log" and nothing else. I don't know if this was intentional or not, but it's probably not a very difficult fix. {{User:Bop1996/sig}} 01:52, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
:*I personally like the Random Page feature. I'd suggest getting rid of About Us (linked at the bottom of the page), Featured Articles/Pictures (listed on the front page), Wanted Pages (not likely to be used frequently), Random Picture (generally comes along with page), and ''maybe'' sandbox. I'd also suggest merging the Community and Wiki Editing sections, since there may not be enough links in each section to warrant a separation.
:I enabled the extension here. Until we need it, nobody has the role, but figured we might need it in the future. -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] 01:43, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
:*Maintenance is nice to centralize some commonly used pages and [[StrategyWiki:StrategyWiki:Cleanup project/Long term tasks|StrategyWiki]] also has something similar. Projects are also good for organization, but they're very hard to keep going without a few people already active in it.

::All sounds good to me. I agree that projects will be hard to keep going, but since I'm basically the only active editor (and not even that active, now that Splatoon has taken over my life), I'm not going to worry too much about how much support these pages garner right now; I'm thinking more long term (aka wishful thinking). If you're all for these changes, I'll let you go ahead and implement them however you think looks good (feel free to put red links on the sidebar if you don't feel like creating them now and I'll throw something together). {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 02:39, 21 July 2015 (UTC)

Hey, it's been a while since I've visited, but I have to say, the wiki has come a long way. The new layout is excellent, and the overall improvement in quality, length and number of articles over the last year is superb. So, just wanted to applaud all of the staff for what you're doing for the wiki. Having founded the wiki I'm really proud to see what your hard efforts have turned MW in to, so you should all be proud of yourselves for the time and effort you've put into the place. Congrats everyone - staff and contributors alike, and all the best going foward. :) {{:User:Melchizedek/sig}} 06:04, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure why, but it's causing everything to float left. Infoboxes, our Welcome template, even the header as I'm editing that reads:
== New Help Guide Nav ==

"Editing Metroid Wiki:Discussion<br>Center (new section)"
I've been rewriting and trimming the help pages as well as [[User:Embyr_75/Sandbox#New_Help_Guide_Nav|working on a new nav]]. I'd like to merge our four (why do we need four separate pages!?!?!) policy pages, and eliminate unhelpful pages completely, namely the '''web-safe colors''', [[Help:Featured Content Nomination]] (which I'm currently treating as dead and also scheming to remove from the front page), Help:User Accounts, [[Help:User Rights]], and Help:Protected Pages. I'm also thinking that Help:Custom Signatures can be merged into [[Help:Advanced Functions]].

I'm good with words, not code. Help! {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 19:03, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
Any thoughts on this overhaul and on the [[User:Embyr_75/Sandbox#New_Help_Guide_Nav|beta new help guide nav]]? If we like the simple, image-oriented motif, I was thinking we could remove the featured image/article from the front page and create a similar, community-oriented nav for the front page (which could potentially go on the [[Metroid Wiki:Discussion Center|Discussion Center]], [[Metroid Wiki:Projects|Projects]], [[Metroid Wiki:Maintenance|Maintenance]], and other relevant pages too). The front page a little messy and disorganized at the moment. {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 05:22, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

:Heading was a css issue, which was probably there before, but fixed now. The alignment with infoboxes/other stuff is due to 'align=***' no longer working, since it's not valid XHTML 4.01 (or something like that...). The solution is to switch things to [http://www.metroidwiki.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Game-infobox&diff=prev&oldid=41112 "float: right"] in the css for right aligned boxes. If something needs to be centered, use <nowiki><center></nowiki> tags. -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|talk]]) 05:29, 10 May 2012 (UTC)
:UPDATE: I also started constructing a nav for the community pages/front page. I couldn't decide between three headers and now I'm thinking we could just rotate them, and implement the same rotation for the Help Guide nav. Input please! Cuz if I don't get input I'm just gonna go crazy and start changing things!! ^_^ {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 17:04, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

== How should Zoomers and Geemers be handled? ==

Hello all! I recently set the width of [[Template:Tab|Tabbed templates]] to 100% (span across the entire page) in the name of aesthetic experimentation. Could I get everyone's opinion on this new look? Did 565px look better or is this more uniform? If we decide to keep the 100% then I'll go ahead and change the heights as well. Thanks! {{:User:Embyr_75/sig}} 15:34, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
In Japan, the enemy [[Geemer]] is called ジーマ (Jiima) and [[Zoomer]] is likely a mistranslation, because save for Zero Mission the rest of the main series calls them Geemers in English (also ヅ (dzu) and ジ (ji) look alike.) But in the Prime series, both Zoomers and Geemers are there, and in the Japanese version they are called ギーマー (Giimaa). Should all Zoomer data besides Prime's also be with Geemer, since they are technically the same creature? [[User:Zharkaer|Zharkaer]] ([[User talk:Zharkaer|talk]]) 08:53, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Dear MetroidWiki,
== Request to Combine Green, Orange, Purple, Silver, Red, and Gold credit articles ==

I just created my account so I could propose a new affiliation. I am here, talking on behalf of ''<u>Icaruspedia</u>'' of NIWA. Since it has been claimed that the Metroid and Kid Icarus are ''sister series'', it would only be fitting for us to take on that tradition. '''Kid Icarus: Uprising''' in particular mentions the Metroid series quite a lot, especially regarding a certain enemy called a '''''Komayto'''''. With all this similarity, I find it baffling that we aren't affiliated already. I hope you accept,
The problem with all 6 of these articles is that they are stubs and extremely similar, so combining them into 1 article removes 6 stubs and simply looks cleaner.

[[User:JORDAN DEBONO|JORDAN DEBONO]] ([[User talk:JORDAN DEBONO|talk]]) 17:10, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
The article can have the title "Credits (insert something)". The insert something is to seperate it from other articles about staff credits.
:I personally believe we should affiliate with your wiki since both wikis are under the NIWA wiki, not just for the Komayto relationship. [[User:IceBlue|IceBlue]] ([[User talk:IceBlue|talk]]) 22:01, 20 July 2012 (UTC)
[[User:Phoenix!|Phoenix!]] ([[User talk:Phoenix!|talk]]) 01:16, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
:On a similar note, is there really a point in having separate articles for all the [[Door]] types? [[User:Zharkaer|Zharkaer]] ([[User talk:Zharkaer|talk]]) 06:04, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

''unfortunately I cannot provide any hyperlinks for you to access. The Captcha is preventing me from continuing and I cannot seem to get the test right. I'm sorry for any inconvenience.''
== Should email address be required for new accounts? ==

::An affiliation beside NIWA? I really don't see why not :] {{:User:Malake256/sig}} 22:55, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
On this wiki, a login is required to edit pages, analogous to requiring a login to post on a forum. But while nearly all forums also require an email address to be specified, this wiki doesn't require that, even for new accounts. So how about making email confirmation a requirement for all new accounts. The requirement should not affect existing users who have not (yet) specified a valid email address.

::: Excuse my slow understanding, but are you positive with the affiliation or not? I can't tell if your against it or not due to the emoticon you entered. Sorry about this,

I would appreciate it if someone from Metroid wiki could check in. Thank you. (I tried to link directly to the post, however, the Asirra extention prevented me from doing so. Please also check on this and be sure you are using the standalone version, not the version included with Confirm Edit, which is known to have this problem)  [[User:Dkpat|Dkpat]] ([[User talk:Dkpat|talk]]) 16:56, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Hello, I wanted to ask a question in regards to some of the pages for Dread, Samus Returns, and Prime Remastered. I have noticed a number of these pages are incomplete and wanted to ask if I could help at all for any of these pages. I have capture card capabilities and would be able to at least get pictures and footage for Prime Remastered and Dread, though I don't want to just go ahead and add anything without permission. I know given the current state of this wiki not much has happened and have read the Copy Right page, though I just wanted to get clarification on if adding my own footage and captures are ok to better help these games pages get updated.

This is going to be the start of a somewhat coherent attempt at seriously expanding and improving the content, organization, and overall quality of our articles based on Areas. What I would like to do is outline some of the biggest problems these articles face, some of the potential solutions, ways to improve the categorization of these articles, and other issues for discussion.
== Need help Cropping and Editing Category on Images ==

===Problems===
Hello again. I have gotten around to getting images from Dread, however, I don't know exactly how to crop them/edit the categories. Am I doing anything wrong that can be clarified? [[User:SuperaJokera|SuperaJokera]] ([[User talk:SuperaJokera|talk]]) 01:00, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
#Inconsistency in organization. This is a major problem even just among ''Metroid Prime'' Areas, which are probably the most organized and consistent of them all. This also is a problem for the ''Fusion'' and ''Other M'' Areas especially, which are built by the Federation beforehand and therefore are difficult to organize in the same way.
#Combining story elements, descriptions of the area, and basic in-game facts. This is something most, if not all, Area articles are terribly ineffective with. For instance, [[Chozo Ruins]] lumps the backstory, architecture, and then more backstory all into one general section, then goes on to describe the environment and general area by discussing the enemies present and the items in the game without really using either to relay information effectively.
#Categorization. [[:Category:Locations]] is simply a mess, and it's got all the Areas just lumped into the parent category, while smaller locations like [[Glacier One]] get the nice, easy-to-navigate, specific categories.

===Possible Solutions===
== May Need to Update or Remove some Affiliate Links ==
#Create a standard that can be adapted to ''[[Metroid Prime Hunters]]'' planets, ''[[Metroid Fusion]]'' sectors, ''[[Super Metroid]]'' areas, and ''[[Metroid Prime 2: Echoes]]'' areas alike. This would likely have to have a good deal of discussion beforehand, but it would ''drastically'' improve how effective our area articles are at actually providing a coherent source of information.
#Probably one of the biggest parts of the possible organization standard. This should be done so that we place proper emphasis on important elements of the area, source it all well, and make it possible to get whatever kind of information someone would be looking for on an area page.
#Reorganize Category:Locations. This also impacts things like [[:Category:Aether]]. What I'd like to do is set it up so that you can find locations by looking through them by game or by where they are in relation to other locations. For instance, [[:Category:Rooms in Agon Wastes]] would be part of a greater category called Category:Agon Wastes, which would also contain things like [[:Category:Agon Wastes Wildlife]]. Category:Agon Wastes would be part of Category:Aether, which is part of [[:Category:Locations in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes]]. This may wind up intersecting with some way of organizing creatures and the like, but that's another project.

===Issues to clear up===
Hello. I have noticed that Metroid HQ and Metroid Database link to either error pages or an unrelated game ad. I think these links either need to be updated or removed. Metroid HQ has seemingly not posted anything on any social media since 2021, but this is only from a basic Google search, and I think Database has just changed their url. [[User:SuperaJokera|SuperaJokera]] ([[User talk:SuperaJokera|talk]]) 18:12, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
*Agreeing on a common standard for organization. Should be discussed in detail, and then whatever we decide should be applied soon afterward to area articles.
*Agreeing on a good recategorization system. Needs discussion.
*Sources. This is something I think everyone agrees is something we need more of on these articles, but while there's no end of sources for articles like [[Phazon Mines]] or [[Chozo Ruins]], the ''Fusion'' or ''Super Metroid'' sources would probably take a bit more poking around in dialogue, manual, or website info.

Hopefully, this giant wall of text is comprehensible enough that we can get some serious improvements out of it. I'm entirely open to discussion, suggestions, revisions, and the like, so long as it happens. {{User:Bop1996/sig}} 18:20, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
