The Varia Suit is one of Samus Aran's many Chozo-created suits, and is usually the second suit to be obtained, however, in some games like Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, she starts off with this suit. It offers a higher level of shielding than the basic Power Suit, and prevents Samus from taking damage in extreme heat and acid. Its name delivers from a mistranslation of the word "Barrier".
