Mother Brain is a recurring character in the Metroid series. It is featured in Metroid, Metroid: Zero Mission, Super Metroid and Metroid: Other M. It was created by the Chozo as an organic supercomputer with telepathic abilities, but it developed sentience and turned on the Chozo. When the Space Pirates later took over Zebes, Mother Brain was made the leader of the entire organization. Mother Brain is responsible for the the spread of Metroids.

In Metroid

In Metroid and its remake, Mother Brain is the main antagonist of the game. It is located in Tourian, and controls all Space Pirate actions on the planet. Samus makes her way into Tourian, and manages to destroy Mother Brain, activating a time bomb which destroys the facility.

In Super Metroid

In Super Metroid, Mother Brain takes all the roles of the previous game, but Mother Brain transforms after her initial defeat in her glass tank. She takes on the form of a highly powerful bipedal being. She also possesses the Hyper Beam, not to be confused with the PED's Hyper Beam. It is actually impossible for Samus to defeat Mother Brain; only the appearance of the infant Metroid allows Samus to complete the boss fight.

In Metroid Other M

Mother Brain has made an appearance in Metroid Other M, through Samus's flashbacks. She recalls of when she and the baby Metroid destroyed Mother Brain in Super Metroid. Also on the Bottle Ship's scientists under Madeline Bergman attempt to create a simulated Mother Brain, known as MB. This simulated Mother Brain, appears to late in the game, physically mirroring Madeline Bergman. After Samus confronts the real Madeline Bergman, Samus finds out that MB was an acronym for Melissa Bergman along with Mother Brain. Samus battles the creature, however the Galactic Federation saves Samus from death, and destroys Melissa Bergman.
