The Spider Ball is a Morph Ball ability found throughout the Metroid series. The Spider Ball's first appearance was in the second Metroid game to be released, Metroid II: Return of Samus. This first version of the spider ball had the ability to cling and maneuver on almost any surface.

In the Metroid Prime series, however, it was restricted to use on special magnetic tracks.

Spider Ball Tracks

Spider Ball Tracks are necessary for the Spider Ball to function in the [[Metroid Prime (series)|Metroid Prime series. The tracks altogether are referred to as the "Magnetic Rail System." The reason for these tracks is because, without them, Samus would too easily be able to roll through the walls on every room. These tracks are found throughout all three Prime games. The tracks are more often than not used to obtain suit expansions of some sort.

In Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption while still restricted to tracks, the Spider Ball gained the ability to be used in conjunction with the Boost Ball to boost away from the track that it was currently attached to. This ability could be used to jump from track to track, shatter cracked glass, and even damage a mini-boss.
