The Hive Mecha is a security drone designed by the Chozo to work with Ram War Wasps, which are released from access ports. Samus encounters it in the Hive Totem of the Chozo Ruins.

After Samus approaches the Missile Launcher the Hive Mecha is guarding, it fills the room with toxic water and releases a swarm of War Wasps. Once the War Wasps are destroyed, Samus can damage the access ports. The Hive Mecha will continue to release large swarms until all three access ports are destroyed.

Trivia

  • Even if Samus has obtained more powerful weaponry prior to battling the Hive Mecha, she can only damage it with the Power Beam.
