Super Metroid is the first and only Metroid game for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. It was released worldwide in 1994.

Plot

Super Metroid takes place directly after Metroid II: Return of Samus. It opens with Samus following Ridley to Zebes after encountering him in the space station containing the Metroid Hatchling. Samus must defeat four bosses, along with serveral mini-bosses along the way.

Trivia

1. The release of Super Metroid was cancelled three times before its initial release because of its massive size, being the biggest game of that time.

2. According to Screwattack, the prelude to Super Metroid is the "#4 Best Video Game Theme of All Time."

3. Super Metroid is playable as a "Masterpiece" in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as a trial mode, playable for three minutes,

4. Many of the songs from Super Metroid have been remixed by Metroid Metal, the songs consisting of the Prelude, Boss Medley, Maridia, and Lower Norfair.
