This page is used by Metroidking for writing and experimenting. I place the outline of what I am going to write then expand it so I do not create stubs. I would prefer is no one but those who I have given permission edits this page. If you wish to experiment and test your editing skills, go here.

Below is my current project: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (as well as some other pages). It will be written in short sentences first, then I'm going to write the plot as I play Echoes so that the information can be as accurate as possible and quotes that only appear once can be referenced.

Plot

After the Federation loses contact with the marines of GFMC Task Force Herakles near Aether, they hire Samus Aran to investigate it and provide assistance. Her ship is damaged by a storm as she enters Aether's atmosphere, preventing her from leaving until its repairs are complete. After landfall, she finds her path obstructed so she takes an alternate route through a Splinter hive. There, she finds the marines dead.

After Samus clears an obstruction that the marines placed to protect themselves from the Splinters, unknown creatures possess the marines' bodies. After destroying the possessed marines, she finds a dark entity creating a portal to an unknown location. Samus follows the entity through the portal then learns that it is a dark version of herself absorbing large quantities of Phazon. Dark Samus destroys the safe zone Samus is taking refuge in then a swarm of unknown creatures attack. Nearly all of her equipment is stolen but Samus escapes.[1]

2.1

After finding the Tyr, she learned that while on patrol they engaged a Space Pirate frigate. While following it into the atmosphere of Aether, their ship was disabled, forcing them to land on Aether. The crew set up a base and attempted to repair the ship. Eventually they were attacked by wild animals forcing them to fall back to their base. After several assaults they were all wiped out.[2] Samus finds a replacement Missile Launcher in a crate nearby the ship, after acquiring it, she is attacked by Dark Splinters, the same creatures that wiped out the marines.

After defeating the Dark Splinters, Samus goes to Great Temple, where another group of Dark Splinters attack followed by the Alpha Splinter that is quickly possessed. After it is destroyed, an unknown technology fuses with her suit. Samus meets U-Mos who explains the plight of the Luminoth and the dangers the Ing pose to universe. Samus agrees to help, U-Mos sends her to Agon Wastes.

P4

After she arrives in Agon, she is attacked by a group of Space Pirates. Space Pirates die, Samus goes to Temple, attacked by Alpha Sandigger which is quickly possessed by Warrior Ing the stole Bombs. Bomb Guardian dies, Samus goes to Energy Controller. Automated message left by sentinel informs her about her next task.

P5

With her Bombs now acquired, Samus can power a portal to Dark Agon. Kills Warrior Ing, explores, attacked by Jump Guardian. Jump Guardian dies, Space Jump Boots acquired, Dark Temple Key acquired. Back to Agon, fight group of Pirates, infiltrates Pirate Base, fights Dark Samus, acquires Dark Beam. Back to Dark Agon, acquires another DTK, explores, finds Light Beam, kills group of Warrior Ing, acquires last DTK, back to Agon, then back to Dark Agon.

P6

Fights, kills the Amorbis, acquires Dark Suit, drains Dark Agon's energy. Transfer's energy back to Agon, goes to U-Mos. Goes to Torvus, explores a bit, attacked by Space Pirates in Temple. Space Pirates die, Super Missile acquired. Gets information from dead sentinel about Dark Torvus , goes to Dark Torvus, finds Boost Guardian. Kills the evil thing, acquires Boost Ball, Temple Key, heads back to Torvus then to Temple Grounds. Rearranges some things, acquires Seeker Launcher.

P7

Heads back to Torvus, goes to submerged portion, finds that Dark Samus survived. DS doesn't attack, laughs, goes away. Samus lifts two locks allowing her to access a lower part, acquires Gravity Boost, Alpha Blogg attacks, she kills it. Escapes with GB, goes to the nearby portal to acquire DTK. Goes to another part of Dark Torvus, fights Grapple Guardian. Once Grapple Beam acquired, final DTK can be acquired. Fights, kills Chykka, drains Dark Torvus energy.

Returns energy to Torvus, goes back to U-Mos , who sends Samus to Sanctuary Fortress. On way to Sanctuary, Samus encounters then kills Space Pirates. Gets to Sanctuary Entrance, ambushed by Pirate Commandos. Commandos die, Samus gets into Sanctuary, attacked by a Quad. Explores, travels through Ing Hive, back to Sanctuary, to Temple. Attacked by two Dark Quads in Temple.

Gets to Energy Controller, Sentinel tells her about area. Explores some more, finds Spider Guardian. Kills it by making it ram into electrical nodes. Attacked by Ingsmashers. Gets DTK in Ing Hive. Exists Sanctuary, Dark Samus blows up bridge. Goes to Torvus then Dark Torvus, battle, smashes Power Bomb Guardian. Back to Sanctuary, finds defeats Dark Samus, gets Echo Visor. Battles Caretaker Drone, destroys it, gets Screw Attack and DTK. Goes to Dark Temple, gets last DTK. Battles Quadraxis, gets Annihilator Beam and drains energy.

Returns energy, back to U-Mos, gets Light Suit . Acquires all nine Sky Temple Keys after long quest through all areas of Dark Aether. Goes to Gateway in Sky Temple Grounds to Sky Temple. Battles, destroys Emperor Ing, drains last Dark Aether Energy Controller. Dark Aether starts to collapse. Samus escapes to Sky Temple Grounds only to be attacked by Dark Samus. Dark Samus defeated after Samus uses Phazon against her. Samus attacked by large group of Warrior Ing, instead of fighting, she escapes through a portal she may now access.

Returns last of Aether's energy, Luminoth thank her. Samus leaves Aether. If 100% of the items are acquired, Dark Samus is seen reforming herself.


Production

A Link to the Past developers provided assistance due to familiarity with the concept. Elements not included in Prime due to time constraints were implemented in Echoes. Wanted more opportunities to do unique boss fights. Super Metroid inclusion was discussed but not implemented cause of time constraints.

Metroid Prime 2 was given high reviews by many critics. It was the highest rated GameCube game in 2004,[3] it also won IGN's GameCube Game of the Year Award.[9] Many reviewers praised its graphical capabilities as well as the artwork. IGN praised the detail put into Aether, but was critical of Dark Aether's appearance saying "The Dark World can be summed up in a word: purple."[10] Metroid Prime 2 was given the award for best graphics on the GameCube in 2004 and was also placed as the 7th best looking video game by IGN.[11][12] It was placed as the 13th best GameCube game by GameSpy and 15th best by IGN.[13][14] Its sound and music was also praised by reviewers. Many reviewers noted that Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is more difficult than the original Prime, but also commented that it is more rewarding.

The multiplayer included in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes received negative reception. Kristan Reed of EuroGamer said that single player mechanics were not meant to be translated into multiplayer and that players would tire of it easily. Most reviewers said that the multiplayer was average and unnecessary. Some reviewers did say that they enjoyed the multiplayer however.

Several reviewers were critical of the some issues that come with locking onto enemies, but said that it was manageable. Other complaints came from the difficulty increasing in some parts due to a lack of Save Stations.

Echoes Glitches

Grapple Beam Glitch

  • Effect: Causes Samus to have her arm extended with the sound of the Grapple Beam playing without it active.
  • Prerequisites: Be in Dark Screw Attack Room
  • How To: Grapple to a Grapple Point. When the beam has connected but before you start swinging, walk backwards into an active portal.
  • Notes: Cancels if elevator used

101% Completion

Floating Jump

  • Effect: Allows you to jump much higher than normal and stay in the air for a longer period of time
  • Prerequisites: Have the three Dark Temple Keys for Dark Torvus Bog
  • How To: Destroy the fourth structure holding up Chykka's cocoon while in the dark water. A cutscene will
  • Notes: This cannot be used to skip Chykka, the platform will not lower if the room is left nor can the Dark Visor be obtained. If any form of water is touched, the jump height will return to normal. While it will not reset if a Portal is used, if an elevator is taken out of Torvus Bog, the jump height will reset.

A-Kul

A-Kul was the Luminoth champion and one of the ten warriors sent to acquire the Sky Temple Keys. Much of the Luminoth equipment Samus uses in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes was previously used by A-Kul.
