Its first form is stationary, with tentacles protruding from its head. In this form, it uses several melee attacks with its tentacles. It also fires several bursts of Dark Energy, but these can be easily dodged in [[Morph Ball]] form. Samus can damage the tentacles with several weapons, the [[Seeker Missile]] being the most effective. Once the tentacles are destroyed, the head will retract, revealing its eye.<ref name=head/> In this form, it fires energy beams, but cannot reach near its body with them. The eye is covered with a rotating shield that has two gaps that Samus can fire through with various weapons.<ref name=eye/> After enough damage has been dealt to the eye, the head returns and generates more tentacles than before. It continues to use its melee attacks and the Dark Energy attack, but it gains two new attacks; it can now pound on the ground with its tentacles, leaving them quite vulnerable to [[Power Bomb]]s, and it can begin teleporting its tentacles throughout the room in an attempt to attack Samus. The cycle repeats until the eye has been seriously damaged, beginning the next phase.

After it has taken enough damage to its eye, the Emperor Ing's head swallows the body, forming a shell to shield itself while it heals. Poison gas fills the room, but the shell is magnetically charged, allowing Samus to cling to the shell using her [[Spider Ball]]. Its shell is covered in weak points that can be damaged now. It will generate tentacles in these weak points to knock Samus away from them. Samus can either drop [[Morph Ball Bomb]]s near the tentacles to destroy them or use Power Bombs to destroy multiple tentacles at once.<ref name=chrysalis/> [[Inglet]]s appear in this time period, allowing Samus to regain health easily by destroying them. After all weak points are damaged, the Emperor Ing emerges from its shell and the next phase begins.

After the shell is destroyed, the Emperor Ing will emerge in a form similar in appearance to a [[Warrior Ing]]. Like Warrior Ing, it can fire transdimensional energy beams, but unlike Warrior Ing, it can fire multiple beams simultaneously. It is also capable of firing a sustained blast of the [[Light Beam]] or [[Dark Beam]]. It attacks by ramming and jumping at Samus some of the time. It also attacks by creating swarms of [[Nightbarb]]s and swarms of white slug-like creatures. It covers its weak point with a shield impervious to the Light and Dark Beams, only vulnerable to the [[Power Beam]] or [[Super Missile]]s. After a Super Missile hits the weak point, it covers its weak point with barriers that can be damaged with a beam of the opposite polarity or the [[Annihilator Beam]]. After a long and grueling battle, Samus defeats the mutated monstrosity and reclaims the last of Dark Aether's energy.<ref name=mutated/>
